Harry Goolie

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, May 14, 2007, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 625 Haycraft, Coeur d'Alene.

Harry passed away May 8, 2007, at his home in Coeur d'Alene. He was born in Hillyard, Wash., on June 10, 1919, to parents, Charles and Catherine Goolie, and attended St. Pat's and Arlington Schools. During his high school years, he was enrolled in the CCC's at Sullivan Lake and later went to work for the Great Northern Railroad. During WWII he enlisted in the Navy and was trained as a deep sea diver in New Caledonia. After the service, Harry began working for the Spokane International Railroad (later become the Union Pacific) and retired at 65. He then worked for Avis rent-a-car for five years and shuttled visitors between Templin's Resort and the Spokane airport for two years.

Harry was a hard worker and loved life and entertained many with his great sense of humor and storytelling. He was always ready to help a neighbor or friend and asked very little for himself. During his final years, Harry's life was interrupted with Alzheimer's disease, but kept his good outlook on life and loved going to the clubhouse at Oak Crest Mobile Home Park for coffee and conversation. Harry is free at last.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Frankie, and sisters, Rose, Mary, Theresa and Eve, grandsons Joey Goolie and Zachary Mullins.

Harry is survived by his wife Mickey, at home; brother, Bob and wife Shirley, Spokane; sons, Harry Goolie, Jr. and wife Bonnie, Spokane and Lonnie Goolie; stepdaughters, Sue (Dave) Beeson, Kan., Becky (Stephen) Mullins, Okla., Cathy (Will) Stafford, N.C., and Tina Wilhelm, Spokane; and 15 grandchildren,

Harry's family would like memorials sent to Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835

Although Harry was not my biological father, I always introduced him to others as my dad.  I couldn't have been more proud when he introduced me as his daughter, too.   Words cannot express how much his granddaughter Seneca and I will miss him.

Harry was a very likable guy and a very good man.  He was a good father to my nieces.  He was very patient and a great host at many get togethers at his house.  We are blessed by having known him.  I will miss him and I pray for the family to receive the peace that comes with God's love.

Brother Harry,
Perpetual motion. Even when he was sitting his leg would be giggly.
He was a good dancer and was so much fun to dance with.
I will always remember the good times with the family.
Love you

Dear Mickey and family.
I am so happy that I had the opportunity to meet Harry and I have thought several times in the past few days about the interview I was priviledged to do with him for our "Resident of the Month" Newsletter at OakCrest. He was quite the storyteller and I can assure you that he had a "Captive" audience that day as he relived a small part of his life. I have missed his sense of humor in the past few weeks because of his deteriating health, and I will miss his quick wit and smile in the future. I know that his and your strong belief in the Lord, gives you the assurance that he is continuing on and that same humor is being shared still today in a beautiful place where he waits for a reunion with all of the ones that he loved and who loved him.You did a wonderful job in the care you provided him especially in these last few months when he depended on you so much. God is keeping record and his rewards are great.
My Prayers and thoughts are with you.
Lynn.

We will miss Harry dearly. He was always funny, hardworking, and he loved life. He always treated us as if we were his own kids and grandkids. The funniest time I remember was when he took all the kids to Mc Donalds and when they got back the kids said "Grandpa was really good!" I also remember this other time when he I asked him where the salt was and he said "Well if you would have put it back you might know where it is!" I hadn't lived there for 15 years! He always made the kids pancakes and waffles and was suprised that I didn't have a waffle iron so I got one for Chrismas that year from him. We will miss his breakfasts.

Fair winds and following seas, Sailor. May you rest where the sun is always over the yardarm and the mermaids dance and dance and dance.

The most vivid memory of my grandpa is that of his laugh. He would send my brother and I rolling on the floor (easily amused, at a young age) because he had a laugh like no one else.
To the utmost, symbolic in itself.

I was very sad to hear about Harry.  Let me know if there is anything I can do.
