Kay and I met 'Duke' over 35 years ago working at Kaiser. One of our fondest
memories was his inviting us over to his house to meet his wife Vi and have
dinner. When he opened the door he looked at Vi and said, "Vi, this is
Patrick and Kasey from work." To this day we are not sure if Vi was
expecting two men or two women for dinner. We were invited back many times
where we got to ride in his horse-drawn buggy, sample his Alaskan salmon sent
to him by his kids, and share many memories. Kay and I will miss Dennis and Vi
sorely.

I have been greatly privileged and blessed to have had Dennis as my
grandfather. God how I miss him!
What an amazingly bright, colorful, character of a man :) He always made life
- even chores - fun: probably because he worked fast and possessed the most
contagious smile and the heartiest laugh ever.
Gramps was a genius at giving you his undivided attention; was generous with
his time, stories, opinion, wisdom and ribbing.
He taught me an un-quantifiable lot about relationships, life, working hard
and relaxing.
My favorite memories are him with a big ol' grin on his face and me just
listening to him rant and carry on about some silly thing. Like: the
amount of advertisements bundled up in his newspaper every day. And how long
it takes him to sort it all out, do the word puzzle, read the headlines and
then walk it across the street to share with the neighbor.
Or my memories of after grandma passed away and I would come visit. I
would have arrived the night before, after he had gone to bed. He would
always leave the door unlocked for me so I would be tucked in the spare room
trying to sleep past 6 AM while he was hollering and good naturedly heckling
at me to "Get outta bed! When I was on the farm.we were up and had fed
and watered all the animals before the sun even rose."
Always cheerful, determined and adamant he was. Who was I to not oblige his
smile?
My life has been, and will continue to be, shaped by who he was and the light
that he brought into my life. I will never forget the countless memories
and adventures that I shared with him and all his friends and family. Both
four legged and two.
I love you gramps, Renee
