Steve (Officer Shauer, sir) was with me from high school through adulthood it seems.  From coaching boxing in the old city hall when my dad took me there in Jr. High, to catching us riding bicycles on Sherman after dark with no lights, and a few football season end beer parties at Fernan Lake, and on to counseling us as young family men back from military service, Steve was and influence on our whole generation and many more, I'm certain.  He will be with me as an example and guardian in spirit as part of what Coeur d'Alene was and always will be to me, and no doubt to many others.  A life well-lived is a true legacy.
