I got a chance to be with Josh through Hospice as a volunteer. He taught me something I'll never forget. When it was hard for me to understand what he was requesting the first few visits, Josh was the most patient person I had ever encountered. He would very calmly restate over and over again what he was trying to tell me until I understood him. I thanked him very much for teaching me something I never before had. Enough patience to be kind to as many people as I meet no matter how I'm feeling or how frustrated I am at the time. I thank God for the experience Josh gave me. God Bless you Josh.  Glenn Martin

Loe, Ernie and family,

Knowing your family, you realize how much Josh's life was a gift to you as well as challenging.  Josh, too, chose well when he chose to do his work with your family.  You helped to make his life as beautiful as it could have been.  With your knowledge of God/spirit, I'm sure there are no doubts about this temporary seemingly separation.  My prayers, thoughts, and love are with you all.  Judith Ehlert

Gosh Josh!! I still rember the first time and trip we took as a person just out of high schooland traveled all over the state for athletic events as well as just talking the talk as some men do when they are comfortable with each other as friends. One of the times I rember and has never left me was the time we were skiing on the Mont. border and it started to snow. you looked up and yelled HEY MIKE!! Look AT THE MOON DUST COMING DOWN !! I have never forgotten that day and to this day when it snows or rains  the first thought is you. Thanks Josh for all the times and talks we had and just got crazy with each others imaginations. (Whew!! Josh if people heard us talk they would think we are pretty nuts) but thats ok its just having fun and being who we are. Josh you will be in a new place and  pursue the dreams we talked about. I could go on forever with the times together but that will be our memories to hold on to. Love Ya Josh. Oh!! by the way you still owe me a turkey sub sandwich, I will catch up to you some day and collect. Mike Holden

First of all our condolences to Josh's family.  The first time we met Josh was on the CDA River shortly after we bought property there.  We were just 3 doors down from he and his family.  He was checking out his "rocks".  We were blessed to meet Josh.  Toni taught Josh how to dance around the fire on several different weekends.  Josh brought Toni several Scooby Doo's because she loved them so much.  Jack and Josh had their special times too.  Jack made sure Ginger Ale was always stocked in the refrigerator, along with some homemade beef jerkey.

It was so sad and left such a void in our lives when Josh was no longer able to see us at the river on weekends or doing our vacation time.

However, Josh is now telling jokes, playing tricks (like he would on us once in awhile!) fishing, running, and no longer in pain.

We are so happy we made it to his celebration of life because that is the last time we saw him.

Thank you, Josh, for enriching our lives and making us better people because of it.

God bless,

Jack & Toni Kirsch

I worked with Josh for almost two years as his job coach at Goodwill Industries from 1999-2001. I enjoyed working with him as he many times brought a smile to my face. He was a hard worker and liked to help out people who were new. I will never forget the concern that he had for me when I had an incident with another client. He looked at me with such empahty and said, "Amy maybe tomorrow will be a better day." So whenever things are not going well, I often think of those very words that Josh said, "Maybe tomorrow will be better." I truly enjoyed having Josh around and he will be missed. I offer my condolences to his family during this difficult time. I know that he will always have a special place in my heart. I will miss you Josh.
Sincerely,
Amy Linares

Josh will be truly missed. I was one of Josh's staff at SL Start. I will never forget the time i took him to a BBQ/Party at the Hayden beach and he dumped water all over me and then laughed so hard. Josh was in my car and the song "Proud to be an American" came on the radio and he started to cry. He told be that that was his favorite song because he was proud to be an American. Josh was a delight to work with he always had me laughing. May he have plenty of apples in heaven.

Love you Josh and God Bless you,

I worked with Josh for many years at SLStart and have so many wonderful memories.  We use to walk to the Cd'A beach to run our programs and check out the "beachers".  We would talk, laugh & joke so much that we would lose track of time and have to race back to SLStart.  (He would out run me).  We had a very special bond and even when Josh was in his wheelchair towards the end he would crack up at jokes with us at our SLStart party and kept smiling. I wish I could have spent more time with him but he knew how I felt and he'll always be in my heart.

To Josh's Family,
Please except my condollences for your loss.  My prayers go out to you.  I worked closely with Josh at SL Start.  Josh really touched my heart!  Loved his sense of humor, smile and warm personallity.  I bowled on the Tuesday night Terrors League bowling team with Josh.  We had fun, snow or ice we made it to the bowling alley to bowl.
Josh really liked our other team mate Pat and all the people on the league.  The first game we played we came in 12th place, but then at the end we came in last but ended up winning 70$.  Not too bad for beginners.
I remember that Josh always thought about that movie called Harry and the Hendersons.  Everytime someone would say "Harry" We would all crack up laughing hiserically.  I remember Josh really liked country music and his favorite artist was Allen Jackson.  My husband made casset tapes of the cds of Allen Jackson for Josh.  He was excited to get them.  JH would always ask how my husband, John and my daughter, Julie were doing.  They are doing great Josh.  Julie is now 7 and will be going into the 2nd grade.  Josh I will surlly miss you!  Love to you and your family!!  Take care and be free!! Love you always!  Love Michelle Etienne (a.k.a. ME)

I found out from a good friend of mine that Josh was no longer with us. She sent me the article from the news paper. Wow I can't believe Josh is no longer with us to make people laugh and share his stories! I first met Josh is grade school at Pinehurst. There wasn't a day that would go buy that he couldn't make me laugh. If people poked fun at him he would just shrug it off like no big deal. Me on the other hand I couldn't stand to be picked on. I guess that's the difference sometimes between boys and girls. Josh and I graduated together from Kellogg High School which was in 1992. I hadn't seen him in years. I went home one weekend to visit my folks that live in Kingston and guess who I seen? It was Josh on his four wheeler talking to the road crew people after a flood and the roads were being repaired. I asked him if he remembered who I was? He said of course I do, your Dawn Jones. To remember my first and last name was a big shock to me! It had been somewhere between 8-10 years since we last seen each other and for him to remember me that well was awesome to me! Most people I haven't seen in that long I couldn't remember their whole name. Well I'm sorry that Josh is no longer with us and it saddens me to think how this affected his family! Chin up and know that you son, brother, family member had the opportunity to experience so much and was loved by so many. It sounds to me just by looking at the people that signed his guestbook that he touched many hearts including mine!
Sincerely,
Dawn L. (Jones) Baldwin

To the loved ones of Josh:
My name is Becky, I work at SL Start.  I didn't know Josh real well, but I did work with him a little before he stopped coming to SL Start.  He was a great guy.  I am looking forward to meeting him in heaven, where there will be no wheelchairs, no more pain, and no more tears.
One thing I wanted to share with you was that I had a little handicapped girl, she had a rare brain cell disorder, and passed away when she was 17.  I wrote a poem that I would like to share with you.

I call it   "Heaven"

Have you ever thought of Heaven, and what it's like up there?
The streets of gold, the gates of pearl, the fragrant flowers so fair?
When I used to think of heaven, it seemed so far away---
Far beyond the rainbows, way past the milky way.

But quickly that all changed for me, when  one day Jesus came,
He smiled and whispered softly, "It's time to take her home."
My baby with the gold-spun hair, my sweet, sweet, special child.
Our children are not really ours, they're just borrowed for awhile.

Heaven's growing closer now, closer every day.
If I close my eyes and listen, I can almost hear her say,
"Mommy, I'm waiting for you, with flowers in my hair.
Mommy, I love you, Mommy.  Jesus will meet you here."

Now, when I think of heaven, it seems so very near,
I think of all the children, and their laughter ringing clear.
There are no crippled children there, their bodies are set free,
No wheel chair, and no braces, no pain, and no more tears.

I would not wish her back, to this earth here below,
But oh, my heart is breaking, to have to let her go.
Jesus promised comfort to those with broken hearts.
I hold onto that promise, and thank Him from my heart.

Heaven's growing nearer now, closer every day.
If I close my eyes and listen, I can alsmost hear her say,
"Mommy, I'm waiting for you, with flowers in my hair.
Mommy, I miss you, Mommy.  Jesus will meet you here."

by Becky Nixon

God bless you, and God bless Josh, and My Winona who are in heaven.

Josh was my cousin that I never got to visit as often as I should have. When we did get together we always had good laughs and great talks. I miss not being able to talk to him, even though we had silly conversations. My heart goes out to Aunt Loe, Uncle Ernie, Cindi and Roger. Josh is in a better place now and gets to laugh with us about our silly mistakes. He will always be loved and cherished. God bless.
