To Uncle Babe's Children,
Not only was your Dad a great uncle, but he also became a tremendously strong
friend. Over the last couple of years, as you know, I've lost a few loved
ones and your Dad was such a great strength for me. I remember calling him
many times not knowing how to handle things and he always talked me through it
and would end up having me laughing so hard my stomach would hurt.
I have so many fond memories of being at your house when I was young...it was
the best place to be!
My heart goes out to you. I loved him to.
Love,
Your cousin Barbara

To the family of Babe:
I want to share with you what a wonderful, caring, sensitive man Babe was to my
family. He was a pillar (although a soft one) when my grandparents, Tom
& Avis Rippetoe, my parents Ruth and Ross Nelson, and when my brother Tom
Nelson all passed on. He made grief and sadness less painful by being a
warm, sensitive listener. I thank you for sharing him with so many in need
of his kindness.

What Babe did for Bill is beyond words. Without his and Pat's love and
unconditional support for my husband I would not have a family now. I
thank him from the bottom of my heart each and every day. Babe has been a
real "listener" for Desalyn and a quiet comfort for her since Mom has
been gone. She would call him on her way to class just to visit.
Even though he was getting short on breath he would tell, "Sweetie, you
just keep talking and I will listen."
Thank you Babe, you are loved and will be missed terribly in our family.
Most sincerely with love,
Bill, Cindy and Desalyn

Babe was one of a kind. He was a man who was deeply dedicated to his
family. His sense of humor and quick wit were his trademark. He was
a wonderful uncle. One of my best memories of Babe was when I was a child
staying at the Riplinger house. I was sleeping in the basement with my
brothers and cousins. Babe was in his room on the 2nd floor. During
the night, I woke up in the middle of a bad dream and screamed at the top of my
lungs. Babe came barreling down the flights of stairs and burst into the
room only to find me sound asleep again by the time her got there. Fortunately,
he forgave me(I think). Babe was one of those who was always there for his
family and friends and demonstrated his caring through his actions. I am
especially grateful for his taking such good care of my Aunt Pat and Grandma
Roche during their later years. Babe will be missed by us all. He leaves
behind the legacy of a strong and close family who will remember him and think
of him often.

I was saddened to hear of Babe's passing.
Growing up in our neighborhood, he was always one of the "cool"
adults.
I was also fortunate that I had the pleasure to see him again 7 years ago at my
mothers funeral.
I'd like to express my deepest condolences to his children.

I can't really put into words how sad I am to hear that Babe's gone..
besides being my own godfather, and always a very good one, he was actually
godfather to the whole family. You couldn't speak to Babe for five minutes
without coming away with a deep sense of respect for the man, and that respect
has never wavered an inch since I was a very young child. He had a gentle
way with words that carried behind it an awesome strength; he was one of the
last of the great patriarchs, and the world is much worse off now that he's no
longer here.

We would go "north" every other summer to visit the family in Coeur
d'Alene - approximately 1500 miles away. We would spend the greater part
of that trip north talking about what we would do when we got to Aunt Pat's and
Uncle Babe's house. The waterskiing, the games, the tennis court, the boys
in the basement with Mike and the girls upstairs with Mary, the BBQs, the jokes,
all that fun!! Was there a better way to spend a vacation than with the
Riplingers? We didn't think so. The trip home was usually spent
talking about what we wanted to do on our next visit to Pat & Babe's
house.
Babe, Pat and all of the Riplingers were so good to us and we will never forget
it.
God Bless you, Uncle Babe - and Thank You for everything.

To the Riplinger Clan: Wendy and I also want to express our sorrow for
your loss. Your father was always a very giving person to so
many. I had not seen your folks for probably 15 years and had to
work in Spokane a couple years ago. I called Aunt Pat and she
guided/escorted me to the house. That house brought back so many good
memories of my childhood. When Babe got home, we played "Guess Who's
Drinking My Beer?" Always quick with a joke. Always a kind a
caring person. Babe, You helped this world be a better place and we are
Thankful to you. God Bless You.

As I read through all the wonderful things said about my grandpa it makes
me sad but it also brightens my soul. When I think of Gramps I smile. He taught
me what it is to be a good man and how to live. I will be forever grateful for
having him in my life. He is still with me everyday. I still see his big grin
when I came home from college and that proud look on his face when I had worked
hard. What a great man. Gramps, "I'm here."

Sharing all are concolences to all of you from the Kelley family. We have many
happy memories of living two houses down from all of you when we were kids, in
fact just had been looking at slides of a few of you that Dad took on Easter one
year with us out in the front yard. Doubt if you knew or remember this but your
parents were my God parents. Jack was also in my class at St. Thomas. Both
of our parents have passed also. Mom died in 2001 and Dad in 04. We all
have very fond memories of your parents.
