Alexander Luis Kothny

Alexander Luis Kothny, 62, of Coeur d’Alene passed away on June 30th, 2023. Alex was born in San Francisco on August 19th, 1960 to Sara and Leander Kothny who were recent immigrants from Argentina.  As a child, with an international extended family, Alex spent a good portion of his childhood in Argentina with his aunts and grandparents.  He frequently shared many stories from his trips there.

Alex married Gina in 1982 at age 22, and together they had two daughters, Alicia and Lexi. He loved being a “Girl Dad” and all the dress up, games, and giggly sleepovers that came with that job.  He also took the Scary Dad job very seriously and relished frightening away all boys.  He provided the opportunity to privately home educate his daughters for 16 years. Alex’s most treasured time with his ladies was when they traveled (in record time) and when the house was filled with laughter (usually instigated by his sense of humor or silly voices).

He worked hard as a commercial drywaller and metal framer before becoming a union representative for the Carpenter’s Union.  Alex was also a proud member of many organizations and affiliations that supported men and women in the trades.

Alex enjoyed cooking, golfing, yelling at a televised soccer game, grooming his mustache, boating, handyman work, listening to music, visiting with pets, helping others, providing hugs, and a great conversation in either of his two languages.  If you bumped into Alex in a store, you probably witnessed him dancing in the aisles while looking for great MEAT deals and singing harmony to whatever music happened to be playing.  Despite what type of day he was having, Alex got to know as many people as possible and found a way to share his faith in a positive light.

Alex is survived by his wife of 41 years Gina, his two daughters Alicia and Lexi, his son-in-love Devin, and his granddaughter Felicity.

A celebration of life will be held at Real Life Ministries, Post Falls, ID on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 1 PM.  A dessert reception will follow.

It was Alex's wish that any memorial tributes be made in the form of charitable donations to Real Life Ministries Men's Breakfast - to continue his love for supporting his community with food and a great BIG hug.

These services will be recorded and streamed live. In the event the service is interrupted at any time due to technical issues, the entire service will be uploaded and available to view later in the day.
