March 27, 1923 – July 1, 2019

Born March 27, 1923 in Cisco, Texas, Barbara Jean Brown/Lewis grew up in West Texas. She was co-valedictorian of her high school class in Denton, Texas and earned membership in the National Honor Society.

In 1943 she moved to Washington, D.C. to work in the Coast and Geodetic Survey department of the Federal government for the remainder of World War II. At the close of the war, she enrolled in Harding University in Searcy, Arkansa majoring in journalism. While there she became editor of the University's newspaper and was listed in Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities.

As evidenced by all the paintings in her home, Barbara was a talented artist. She also enjoyed gardening, playing ping pong - left or right handed, and riding her bicycle which she did into her 96th year.

Barbara and Ray married in 1947 and had five children: Linna, Kent, Leslie, Laurie, and Lorinda. They were married for 71½ years.

Barbara is survived by her husband, Ray, four of her children, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a niece, and a nephew.
