Barbara Anne Phinney

Barbara Phinney, 93, of Coeur d’Alene, passed away peacefully on October 28, 2023. Barbara was born in Detroit, Michigan. Her family moved to Whittier California after WWII, where she eventually settled down to teach elementary school and raise her family. She was the proud mother of 5 children: Mary Hanggi, Richard Chamberlain, Carole Stringer (deceased), Chris Phinney, and Sarah Phinney. She had 4 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren that she adored. Barbara and her husband, George, moved to North Idaho in 1986, and settled in Coeur d’Alene in 1996. She enjoyed her family, friends, pets, knitting, travel, and supporting local organizations.

George & Barbara were blessed to have incredibly wonderful neighbors in CDA who became life-long friends.  Their neighborhood in the foothills above town was such a comfort to her and she remained involved in the close-knit community her entire life.  She was also very close to some dear friends in the local knitting community, who were so wonderfully supportive to her throughout her life.

A celebration of life will be held next year at Barbara’s home away from home, Michael D’s restaurant, on Saturday, May 4, at 2:30 pm.  We hope that her many friends will be able to share in this joyous occasion to celebrate her life, and love for her friends and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Companions Animal Center in Hayden, Idaho.
