Bonita Humphrey Koontz, 90, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho passed away on November 26, 2025, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House.

Bonita was born August 10, 1935, in Kalispell, Montana to Albert and Alice Hoppe. She grew up in the Benewah Valley in St. Maries, Idaho. Bonita married Wayne E. Humphrey in 1951 and together they shared 52 years of marriage. They had many adventures living in Anchorage, St. Maries, Post Falls, and Hawaii. They retired in Post Falls in 1982 spending summers in Post Falls, and winters in Yuma until Wayne’s passing in 2003.

In 2012, Bonita married Ron Koontz of Dalton Gardens and later moved to Coeur d’Alene. They enjoyed bowling, traveling to Arizona and trips to Hawaii. Her bowling memories include placing 4th in the Washington State Women’s Tournament and bowling twice in the USBC Open Tournament.

Bonita is survived by her husband Ron; her children Wayne (Pam) Humphrey of Rathdrum and Kim (Kenneth) Sasaki of Hawaii; stepchildren John (Judy) Koontz, Peggy (David) Raichel, and Dennis (Carol) Koontz. She is also survived by her five grandchildren Michael Nishida Llanes, Nicole Bednar, Stacy Tolentino, Tommy Humphrey, and Sara Fetters; 13 great-grandchildren; her brother Raymond Hoppe, and sister Alice Scarborough. She is predeceased by her brother Norman Hoppe, and Richard “Nibs” Whitehead.

Memorial services will be held at Community United Methodist Church, 1470 W Hanley Avenue, Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday December 9th at 1:00 PM. 

Donations can be made to the memory of Bonita to Schneidmiller Hospice House. English Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
