Brenda Rosalie Oaks

Brenda Rosalie (Gibson) Oaks, age 68, of Hayden, Idaho, passed away peacefully at her home on August 20, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Brenda was born on November 28, 1957, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to James and Rosie Gibson. She married Timothy Oaks in 1976 in Greenville, Michigan, and together they had two sons, John and Daniel. Though their marriage later ended in divorce, it was a loss Brenda carried deeply; she never stopped wearing her wedding ring and still wore it at the time of her passing. In the years that followed, Brenda poured herself into raising her sons, devoting her life to nurturing and providing for them. She worked hard and sacrificed often, making sure that no matter the circumstances, her boys never went without. The family later moved to Ben Wheeler, Texas, to be closer to her parents, whom Brenda lovingly helped care for as they grew older.

The first love of Brenda’s life was the Lord, and her faith was evident in the way she lived. She embodied the Gospel through a life of service, generosity, and love for others. Brenda was a nurturer by nature. She cared for people wholeheartedly, always seeming to notice when someone needed a meal, a helping hand, encouragement, or simply someone to care. Children and animals seemed instinctively drawn to Brenda, sensing a gentleness and warmth that made them feel safe and loved. She gave freely of her time and herself, and she was happiest when surrounded by the people she loved.

For Brenda, feeding people was one of the most natural expressions of that love. Her meals were hearty, savory, and made to be shared. She was famous among family and friends for her “Campbelled” Eggs, Tater Tot casserole, and Texas sheet cake, but she rarely needed a recipe. Brenda could seemingly create something delicious out of thin air, dreaming up new dishes as she went and somehow always knowing just what they needed.

Her cooking and baking reached well beyond her own table. Brenda would regularly rise hours before work so she had time to bake something special to bring to her coworkers, leave for her family, or deliver to the local fire station. Even during the final week of her life, she was still baking for the firefighters—a small act that so perfectly captured the way Brenda lived: always thinking of someone else and always finding another person to nurture.

Brenda worked as a cashier at Walmart for more than 30 years, where her kindness, warmth, and ever-present smile touched countless coworkers and customers. She had a gift for making people feel welcome and cared for, and she carried that spirit with her wherever she went.

Above all, Brenda loved her family. Her sons and grandchildren were a source of tremendous joy, and caring for the people she loved was never a burden to her—it was simply who she was. Her kitchen and her heart were always open.

Brenda is survived by her sons, John (Amy) Oaks and Daniel (Brittany) Oaks; her grandchildren, Mylee, Sterling, Monroe, and Barrett; her brother, James (Mitzi) Gibson; her nieces, Cherith Gibson, Ann (Matt) Gibbs, Sue Goodall; her nephews, Ronald Goodall, Jameson Gibson, and David (Crystal) Goodall She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Rosie Gibson, and her sister, Donna Goodall.

A Memorial Service for Brenda will be held on August 29, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. A reception will follow at the Oaks residence in Hayden, Idaho.

Brenda will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her joyful smile, her servant’s heart, and her extraordinary capacity to nurture others. She loved people by caring for them—through meals around her table, cakes left for coworkers, desserts delivered to firefighters, sacrifices made for her children, care given to her parents, and countless acts of kindness that often went unseen. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, generosity, and love that will live on in her family and in the many lives she touched.
