Carrie Ann Stewart

The world has lost a great soul … and heaven has most certainly received one. Carrie Ann Stewart, a pillar of love and strength, passed away Dec. 7, 2023, at the age of 82, at the Schneidmiller Hospice House in Coeur d’Alene. Born on Nov. 15, 1941, to Ernest and Inez Taylor in Santa Cruz, Calif., Carrie lived a life filled with grace, compassion and unwavering dedication to her family. She leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished for generations to come.

Married in December of 1958, Carrie was a devoted wife for 65 years to her beloved husband, Paul. Their enduring love was a testament to commitment and partnership, weathering the storms of life hand in hand. Together, they built a foundation of love and support that served as an inspiration to all who knew them.

After growing up in Santa Paula, Calif., Paul and Carrie, along with sons Roger and David, and daughter, Gail, moved in 1979 to Coeur d’Alene to enjoy all of the lifestyle benefits afforded in the area. Carrie and Paul started Stewart Construction Company, and along with their offspring built an award-winning business in North Idaho.

Carrie's greatest joy in life was her expansive family. Her three children brought into the world seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her home was a hub of warmth and laughter, where generations gathered to share stories, celebrate milestones, and create lasting memories. Along with Paul, she was a fixture at every sports venue in the area … cheering on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing everything from T-ball and soccer to high school basketball and volleyball games. Carrie's legacy will live on in the love and bonds she fostered within her family.

Her guidance, wisdom, and boundless love shaped their character and set them on

paths of success and fulfillment. She was not only a mother but a true friend, offering a listening ear and a comforting presence whenever needed.

Carrie’s survivors include her husband, Paul Stewart Jr. Son Roger Stewart and his wife, Patty. Their three daughters, Nicole Roth (Dillon); Natalie Kiefer (Chris) with great-grandchildren Elliette, Gabriel, Cecilia and Aria; and Taylor Stewart. Her daughter, Gail Chamberlin, and her two daughters, Kristin Williams (Derek) and their children, Kendall and Kimber; and daughter Jaime Arnold (Ryan) and their son, Jackson. And, her son, David Stewart, along with his sons, Brandon and Derrek. Carrie is preceded in death by her parents and son-in-law Kevin Chamberlin.

Carrie Ann Stewart's departure leaves a void in the hearts of all who knew her. Yet, as we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate the remarkable life she lived and the love she shared. Her integrity was unwavering and she was the moral compass at the core of a loving family. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration, and may her spirit continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.

After a private burial ceremony, there will be a celebration of Carrie’s life Sunday, Jan. 7, from 2 to 5 p.m., at the Coeur d’Alene Eagles Lodge in downtown Coeur d’Alene. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family requests donations to be made to the Schneidmiller Hospice House. The family wishes the community to know how well Carrie was treated in her final days under the great nurturing care of the staff there.
