Cheryl Ann Lang, 79, passed away peacefully at Hospice House of north Idaho, after a brief battle with cancer on July 2, 2025.
Cheryl was born March 20, 1946, to Kenneth and Orine Sperry in Wallace, Idaho. She grew up in Osburn, Idaho and made her home there until retiring to Post Falls in 2002.
Cheryl met Jon Lang in high school in 1963 where they both played in the trombone section of the Wallace High School band. Cheryl graduated in 1964 and a year later married Jon on August 13, 1965 and would be celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary this year. They were blessed with four children: Jonnie, Jeff, Jason, and Jennifer.
She grew up the youngest of four siblings and was convinced (as were her siblings) that she was her dad’s favorite. She loved her friends, cooking, and being a member of the Church of the Nazarene, where she was baptized at age 11 by Rev Harold Gilliam. Each summer, she looked forward to girls camp and family camp at Pinelow on deer lake.
As a young girl, Cheryl would often put rollers in her dad’s hair while he was napping after work. This family practice led to her becoming a licensed beautician shortly after high school and worked at a salon before becoming a full-time mom.
As a mother of four, her love of cooking expanded and she added and perfected many dishes of her mother in law’s, Louise Lang. These North Dakota/Russian-German dishes such as fleischkuekle, fleischnudein, fleischknephia became traditional meals in the Lang household and still are today.
Cheryl had a deep faith and it was important for her to raise her children among the church family she loved so dearly.
After raising her children, Cheryl got back into the workforce and was a cook for the Wallace School District which led her to becoming the Food Services Supervisor. When she and Jon moved to Post Falls, she worked in food services at Post Falls School Distirct before retiring in 2009. After Jon and Cheryl retired, they enjoyed being snowbirds in Arizona where they reconnected with old friends from the Silver Valley and met many new ones they would keep in touch with over the years.
Cheryl was blessed with nine grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them camping, on holidays, and any time they could have a sleepover at Grandma’s house.
Cheryl loved flowers, attending church, camping, loved to cook, swim, quilt, rodeos, going to Quinn's Hot Springs, the Spokane Interstate Fair, and Seaside, OR, where she shared many memories with her children and grandchildren.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Jon, sons Jonnie (Heather) Lang, Jeff (Lisa Rullman) Lang , and Jason (Olga) Lang , daughter Jennifer Weil (Jason), grandchildren Madison, Cutler, and Kash Lang, Tysen and Meghan Lang, Mariah, Kouper, Kage, and Kellen Weil.
She is also survived by her oldest brother, Ken Sperry, and her sister and best friend, Sandra Gilliam, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Orine Sperry, and her brother, Warren Sperry.
A celebration of life for Cheryl will be held on July 24, 2025 from 2-5pm at the Grace Evangelical Free Church in Osburn, ID. There will be a dinner following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, feel free to make a donation to a charity of your choice.
