His family traveled around the western states during his early years as his father followed construction

jobs from state to state, city to city. They spent quite a while in AZ before moving to the high desert of

CA. They settled in Palmdale & lived there until Clarence went into the service. He served in the National

Guard, then the Army for his tour of duty in Korea. Shortly after his return to the States, he married

Wandene. She would be his wife for 60 years until her passing in 2013. They had 3 sons: Herbert, Harold

& Howard. Clarence was a gifted mechanic. He could fix anything & could probably make anything given

the tools & time. Through the years, he worked for Civil Service at Edwards Air Force Base during the

Mercury space program in the HVAC dept. While working there, he built a home for him & his family in

Littlerock, CA. But after building it, he decided to move the family to Redding, CA. There, he worked for

the railroad for a while. But he ended up getting a job as head mechanic with a large trucking firm that

was doing a job in the Shasta Dam area. So, the family moved to Round Mountain, CA. until that job

finished up. Clarence was then offered a supervisor position in this company’s mechanic shop. That job

took the family to Alabama, where they lived for just over a year. Missing family too much, they moved

back to CA, settling in El Monte. Clarence then bought his own truck & went into business for himself.

They stayed in the area until the boys graduated from high school. But when an injury forced Clarence to

stop driving the truck, he & his wife returned to Littlerock & the little house that he had built years ago. He

worked for his brother at a local lumber yard for several years but started the trucks up again when his

youngest son, Howard, wanted to give it a go. The two of them worked hard, but they worked well

together so it seemed more like fun than work. They built up a successful business that lasted 16 years.

At this time, Clarence & Wandene were ready for retirement. It was decided that Howard would move his

family up to North Idaho, where Clarence & Wandene had longed to live for years. After a year of getting

established, Clarence & Wandene joined Howard & his family. They lived together in Spirit Lake, ID, as

they had all those years in Littlerock. Together.

At 93, this self-made man had a long, adventurous & happy life. Everything he did was with his family in

mind, motivated by his love for his family. Always willing to lend a helping hand for family or friend.

Always with a smile, a joke, or a wink that told you he was up to something. What he didn't have, he

made. He was a textbook example of independence and self-sufficiency. Even when his body was failing

him, it didn't stop him from going out and doing the things he wanted to do. He loved hunting, camping,

being out in nature, even though he wasn’t able to enjoy those hobbies as much as he would have liked.

He will be missed by many, especially by us, with endless love & respect.
