LCDR Cole Albert Sherron (Ret.)

Born on Aug. 17, 1925, in Wake Forest, N.C., to William Gordon and Mayetta (Davis) Sherron. The oldest of three sisters and a brother. Cole passed away April 20, 2023.

Cole was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Lewis, and a brother, William.

Cole married Jean Marie (Swartz) Sherron on Dec. 23, 1948. They had three sons, Clifton, Neal and Donald. Jean preceded Cole in death in 2002, along with Clifton in 2014 and Neal in 2016. Cole and Jean had a loving marriage for 53 years. They had five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Cole entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and made it a 30-year career. Jean was a Navy wife for 53 years. He entered the U.S. Navy during World War II in 1943 and was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam War, the Cuban Crisis of 1962, and the Israeli War of 1970. Cole leaves sisters, Clara Sterle of Columbus, Ohio, Lou Hamilton of Tacoma, Wash., and a son, Donald Sherron of Meridian, Idaho. During his naval career on cruisers and destroyers, he traveled to 63 countries and island countries of the world.

After retirement, Cole and Jean traveled to all of the states of the U.S., plus all the provinces of Canada, and all of Northern Mexico. They moved to Idaho in 1977, planted a large garden and fruit orchard, and donated all of the fruit and vegetables to friends, neighbors and the Food Bank.

In lieu of flowers, seek out a child and give them an apple, banana, or orange, plus a big smile. Cole and Jean were members of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Jean for 60 years and Cole for more than 70 years. During their marriage, Cole and Jean made a covenant with God and they believed that man, woman and child were put on this earth to love and help each other and they always attempted to pursue that.

The funeral service will be held Sunday, April 23, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Seventh-day Adventist Church in Hayden. The viewing will be before the service. The graveside will be held at Prairie View Cemetery after the funeral service.
