Corina Hathaway

Corina Hathaway was born in La Feria, Texas, to Juan M. Castillo and Elisa Valenciano Castillo on July 31, 1951. She was the sixth of seven children and the only girl. Growing up with strong-willed brothers, Corina worked with her family harvesting crops and picking cotton from a young age. She moved to Payette Idaho in 1963 where she first met her future husband James R. Hathaway. Corina’s first impression of the man she would later marry was “he was stuck up. I didn’t like him.” Luckily, her feelings changed as they both began studying at the University of Idaho in 1969. Within the first few weeks of school, the two had begun “chumming around” and the rest, as they say, is history.

Corina graduated from the University of Idaho in 1973. The Vandal alumna left with a Bachelor's of Science in education and more importantly the love of her life. Dick and Corina enjoyed a rich life together, living in Colorado, Montana and Oregon while raising their three children. Throughout her life, Corina worked as a teacher, office manager, ophthalmology technician and realtor. Wherever they lived Corina served faithfully at the local Catholic church: always doing her best to honor God and pushing others to grow in their own faith and obedience. She made friends wherever she went and created a home that was not only safe and supportive of her own children; but all others that entered her sphere.

Corina is survived by her husband James R. Hathaway; her children Lincoln, Kimberly and Parker; her grandchildren Hayden and Sydni; her brothers Alberto, Juan, Carlos, Jessie, Oscar and Ernie; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as countless friends and adopted “sisters.” Corina’s presence will be sorely missed by all.
