It Is with great sadness our beloved Dan “Danny Boy” Elkins 78 of Hayden ID passed away Sunday Sept 21 2025. Dan was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose warmth, humor, and kindness touched everyone who knew him! Dan was born in Coeur d’Alene on May 7, 1947 and was a third generation Idahoan! He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1967!
Dan married the love of his life Sandy Elkins in August 31, 1968! They were happily married for 57 years! He and Sandy had three beautiful daughters Angie, Tammy and Buddy! He was very fond of them! They lived and raised their children in Coeur d’Alene! As a young man he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping! Annual hunting and fishing trips were enjoyed with his family and friends!
Dan worked as a Corporate Saw Filer for 33 years at Idaho Forest Industries! He was recognized by his colleagues for his attention to detail in his field! In 1997 he retired and with Sandy as his first mate set out to sail the world! They sold their home bought an 42’ sailboat to live out their dream of navigating the sea! After their adventure they returned to North Idaho! Dan and Sandy built a few homes worked a few more years and then retired in 2009! They liked to travel south to escape the winter cold and enjoyed the warmer climate! They found an RV park they enjoyed in Hemet CA! In his later years he enjoyed golfing with friends, building projects and gardening! He enjoyed time spent with family and friends! Dan was a strong Christian and raised his children with the same principles he learned! He and Sandy were members of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene.
He is survived by his loving wife Sandy Elkins; daughters Angie Lynn, Tammy (Dan) Poulin, and Buddy (Bob) Monk; and his cherished grandchildren Kiery & Kaylee Poulin and Dakota Lynn! Family and fiends will gather to celebrate Dan’s amazing life on Saturday September 27 2025 at Christ the King Lutheran Church Coeur d’Alene ID at 1:00 pm with a dinner reception at the family’s house. Dan will always be remembered for the love he gave so freely and the joy he brought to those around him. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved!
