Daniel Everts

With broken hearts we morn the loss of our cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, veteran, and friend - Daniel M. Everts.

Dan was born in Columbus, Ohio on January 16, 1946. Moving with his parents and brothers to Coeur d’Alene in 1950, graduating from CDA High in 1964. While a young man Dan played multiple sports, his favorites football and boxing. Being both a starting linebacker as a sophomore and a Golden Gloves Champion. Then joining the Air Force, primarily working with radar systems. During this time, he married his best friend and one and only sweetheart, Janice. Together they had one child, the second love of his life, Chrissie. Dan then attending NIC after moving back to the area before continuing his education at the University of Idaho in Moscow. Dan graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, completing the rigorous program in three, rather than the normal four years. He then moved Janice and Chrissie with him to Fairbanks, Alaska while he was working out of Prudhoe Bay. After 10 long years of working up and down the Alaska oil pipeline, he returned to his family in Coeur d’Alene. Dan worked as an Electrical Foreman until his retirement at Kaiser Aluminum, in the Spokane Valley. Next to marrying Janice and having his daughter, the best moments of his life were when his three grandchildren came into his world.

He was present for their births and held and rocked and fed and changed their diapers every single day for the first years of their brand-new lives. Tutoring his grandsons in algebra, coaching them on the riding lawnmower, attending and loving every minute of his granddaughter’s singing performances, picking up the kids from school but first stopping at Super 1 for soft serve ice cream cones, playing the card game 31 bedside during his last few weeks – every moment with his adored grandkids was his favorite.

Through these months of highs and lows, healings and setbacks, his fervently devoted Janice was right by his side - helping him shave, bringing his favorites to eat and drink, making sure his blankets were just so, rooting for Gonzaga basketball together, and sitting with him at dialysis. He would always ask,” hey when is your mom coming by?” if it had been more than a few hours since he’d seen her last. Throughout his ongoing health struggles this past year, he maintained his warm and unique humor. Sharing knock-knock jokes with the grandkids, including teasing and joking around with the doctors and nurses dedicated to his care. If you were among those who called Dan your friend, you were truly blessed.

Dan is survived by his wife Janice (Powers) Everts, daughter Christine Everts-McConnell, grandchild Siena Starlyn McConnell, grandchild Christopher David McConnell, grandchild Dax Daniel McConnell, son-in-law Keith McConnell, brother Claude Everts, and numerous extended family members including treasured cousins and nieces, his best friend of 60 years Wally Beck, along with countless friends. And his special Angels who comforted him on his way to heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents Marklin Everts, Suzanne Everts, and brother Glen Everts.

Charitable contributions can be made to the Children’s Village. Dan’s Memorial Service will be held this Sunday, March 8th at 2:00 pm ( remember daylight savings time ) at the English Funeral Chapel, 1133 N. 4th St. Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
