David Dodson

The creator of the most spectacular blueback dip in the universe, David C. Dodson, passed away at home on Sept. 22, 2021, surrounded by his children, his best friends, and two of his grandchildren.

He was born July 10, 1953, in Cascade, Idaho, in what was a thwarted mad dash to Boise.

David will be greatly missed by many but none more so than his children, Amanda and Ethan. They shall miss the laughter, the tears, the intense debates, the talks of food, and comparing watchlists of tv and movies. Sitting in silence while watching tv or the sun going down. He made sure no Zags games were missed.

Dave had the most amazing friends in the world Dan Rude was his second half. They spoke several times a day and always ended the call with an I love you (a practice that has been carried on by Dave's children and should be followed by everyone, as you never know what the next day may bring). Robert Hellman was a calming hopeful grounding force for Dave. David looked forward to each visit with excitement.

In David’s last moments he was lucky enough to see and/or speak to his siblings. He recognized each voice immediately. This was an enormous tear-inducing blessing to all.

Dave retired from the CDA Fire Dept. He loved his life as a CDA Firefighter with a passion (there are tons of T-shirts to prove it). From his first years as a messy rookie cook who had to be put in his place, to his time as head of the union fighting for his firefighter brethren, who were family until his very last days. The Coeur d'Alene fire crew came through for David and his children at the very end. Amanda and Ethan will be eternally grateful for that.

Dave loved the water, fishing, and camping (and Subarus. They saved him multiple times and the stories were epic).

David was preceded in death by his parents, father Charles and stepmother Martha, mother Jaime, and step-father Bill. Also, his brothers John and Charles.

David is survived by his children Amanda and Ethan. His brother Jim (Dena), sisters Cheryl (Al) and Peggy (Raleigh), sister-in-law Diana (Charles), several stepsiblings, multiple grand-children, ex-brother-in-law, and perhaps most importantly Pilota, his most favorite feline who will live the rest of her life in the lap of luxury.

A remembrance will be held in the spring pursuant to David’s wishes. Details to come.

In lieu of any flowers, cards, etc. please reach out to your local fire department or animal rescues and see where, when and how you can support them.

And please vocally share support for your local fire crews on any platform you have.
