David R. Johann

David Johann passed away Friday, May 10 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho after a long struggle with dementia.

He is survived by his wife Linda and daughters Amy and Kathleen, nine grandchildren, his sister Linda, and brothers Larry and Richard.

David graduated from Aquinas High School in La Crosse, Wisconsin, University of Wisconsin, La Crosse Wisconsin, and Utah State University. He thrived in several related occupations.

David worked in Environmental services for Panhandle Health District and the State of Idaho Department of Environmental Quality. Later, he started his own business, Johann Apiaries, as a commercial beekeeper. He rented honey bees for pollination from California to Washington and produced honey in Idaho. The honey was bottled, labeled, and marketed locally under his brand. Later, he relocated to the Rathdrum Prairie to farm. Johann Farms produced and sold forage crops and raised and sold beef cattle, sheep and hogs.

David was an active supporter of 4H programs and provided many weaner pigs for 4H members to raise, train, show, and sell at the North Idaho Fair.

The Johann farm also provided a site and support for the Giving Garden managed by Calvary Lutheran Church Post Falls. The garden provided more than 1 million pounds of organic vegetables to the Post Falls Food Bank (now Third Street Market) over 12 years.
