Derreld Arthur Hallenbeck, age 67, of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, passed away on June 26, 2026 after a brief bout with cancer.

Born on May 31, 1959, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Edna Pearl Dunlop, Derreld graduated from Benton High School in 1978. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served with distinction as a Jet Engine Mechanic for 22 years. His military career included multiple overseas deployments in support of humanitarian assistance missions and forward deployment during Operation Desert Storm. He retired from the Air Force in February of 2001 with the pride and honor of a dedicated veteran.

Following his retirement, Derreld pursued higher education at Tennessee Technological University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Furniture Design. A lifelong craftsman, he found deep fulfillment in woodworking and furniture making, turning his designs into beautiful, handcrafted pieces.

Derreld was an avid outdoorsman with a keen sense of humor and a remarkable knack for making friends wherever he went. A man of many hobbies, he enjoyed collecting vintage stereos and vinyl records, playing golf, fly fishing, tennis, and even a brief but enthusiastic stint of playing pickleball. A true foodie at heart, he loved to cook and share meals with family and friends, often experimenting with new recipes and filing the home with warmth and delicious aromas.

He is survived by his loving partner of 16 years, Claudette Thor, son Brent Hallenbeck, and brother, Bart Sauter. He was preceded in death by his mother, Edna Pearl Dunlop.

Derreld will be remembered as a fierce and loyal friend to all who knew him. His strong work ethic, unwavering commitment to service, creative spirit, quick wit, and generous nature brought joy and laughter to everyone around him.
