Dixie Lynn Sanborn

Dixie Lynn Carmack (Sanborn)  was born in Sandpoint, Idaho at Bonner General Hospital on February 2, 1950 and died peacefully at Life Care in Coeur D Alene, Idaho on August 20th, 2023.  Dixie was born to and preceded in death by her Father,  Bill Carmack and Mother,  Fern Carmack (White).  She is survived by one sister, Pat Stehwein (Stan) and family and one brother, Bill Carmack Jr and family.  She was preceded in death by her devoted and loving husband Chris Sanborn.  They honeymooned on Kauai, Hawaii when they were married in 1987 and lived there until 2018 – when they moved to the Big Island of Hawaii. Dixie had two daughters with her first husband, George D Thornton.  Her daughters are:   Rachel Roberta Thornton Bernardi (Lee) and grandchildren;Frances, Daniel and Merrill Smith. As well as Sarah Lynn Thornton Asuncion and grandchildren; Violet Waikala and Lehua Asuncion.  She also was very close to her niece, Dr. Manda V. Hicks.   Dixie loved music, cooking and her family.  She was known for many years as the “Deli Queen” because of her amazing recipes and sense of humor at the original location of Kauai Athletic Club, where she ran Ms. Dixies Deli.  She had recently returned to northern Idaho to be closer to her daughters and extended family.  She will be forever loved and deeply missed.  What a gem you were Mama!

“Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves, for they will never cease to be amused.”
