Doris Louise Hansen

Doris Louise (Grimshaw) Hansen, daughter of James Howard and Anna Marie (Fuchs) Grimshaw quietly passed away June 20, 2023 in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho after an amazing 94 years of life. Doris’ faith was a driving force throughout her life and she now resides in heaven with her Lord and Savior.

Doris was born in Danbury, Connecticut, September 22, 1928. She graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in 1949 and worked at various capacities in her nursing profession throughout her career. She married George Eberle Jr in 1951 and was the primary caregiver to 4 children she cherished her whole life.

In 1981, Doris married Earl Hansen and became step mom to four adult children. Doris and Earl moved from Springfield, Missouri to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho right after marrying where they remained for the rest of their lives.

Doris’ life was defined by her relationship to the Lord. She was full of love for her fellow beings and lived it daily by being a constant source of help and encouragement for those around her. As one of her grandchildren once said of her “She is the most gracious person I know.” Behind her gentleness and grace, though, she was tough as nails. Unobtrusively sticking to her convictions in the face of adversity she could be strong and determined. She did not shy away from discomfort, often juggling duty and a sense of adventure that she shared with her children and grandchildren.

Doris was always up for an adventure. In her late 60s she gamely used the rope swing on Sand Creek in Sandpoint, ID. She had a passion for exercise, was an excellent swimmer, and continued to enjoy the water throughout her life. She remembered fondly her teen years on the water at Candlewood Lake, Connecticut. She skied and hiked the mountains in Connecticut, Colorado and Idaho, hunted geese and deer in Canada, and bagged a Caribou in Alaska. She loved to camp, fish, and pick huckleberries. Many a fish ended up in her frying pan. Many a huckleberry ended up in her jam and other desserts. Much like her father, Doris could frequently be found with her hands in dirt. She had a magic touch with any plant.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, James, Jean, and Johnny, and her husband Earl. Doris is survived by her four children, Jonathan Eberle and wife Stephanie, Timothy Eberle, Krista Eberle and husband Marty, and Benjamin Eberle and partner Anja along with two step-children, Scott and Terry

Hansen and their families. She has six grandchildren with spouses and four great grandchildren. Her love for her family spread across two continents. She leaves us all full of memories and the deepest possible love and admiration for her. Of the many things Doris accomplished in her life, her greatest gift, undoubtedly, was to her family - just by being herself.

A private family service will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hospice of North Idaho, 2290 West Prairie Ave. Coeur d’Alene, Idaho 83815
