Douglas A. D'Andrea

Douglas A. D’Andrea was born on February 1^st, 1938, in Kellogg ID.  A loving Husband, Father and Grandparent, Doug passed away peacefully on January 10^th, 2024 in Spokane WA. Doug was the son of Anthony Valentine D’Andrea (Tony V) and Ruth Rose Rosenholz. During his youth his family moved from the Silver Valley to Coeur d’Alene where he would graduate from CDA High School class of 1956. Doug excelled in athletics in high school lettering multiple years in Football and Track. In addition to sports, he enjoyed the outdoors, which included duck hunting with his father and brothers on numerous lakes throughout North Idaho.   

Upon graduating from Coeur d’Alene High School Doug joined the US NAVY at the age of 17. Doug wanted to “see the world.” While in the Navy Doug would attend cinema photography school at USC.  As a motion picture photographer, he would go on to have a proud and distinguished 30-year Naval career. His accomplishments included a tour in Vietnam filming the war from the front lines.  He also served on the White House Press Corp as the Naval Photographer under presidents Johnson and Nixon. Doug was also aboard Air Force One for the first Presidential flight to Red China with President Nixon.    

In May of 1963, Doug married the love of his life Mary Ann Jenkins. Doug and Mary would be married 49 years until her passing in 2012.  Mary was/is forever in his heart. Together they raised three children.  Katy, Marc and David.  Doug was a proud father who loved his family dearly.  Some of our fondest memories growing up included our family reunion trips from San Diego to Coeur d’Alene typically in late July and early August. The old station wagon was always packed. We would spend time with Grandpa Tony and Grandma Ruth and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.  By default, Doug was the family photographer and captured many indelible memories that will last a lifetime.  Those were truly cherished times.  Doug also had a knack for building. He built numerous decks, patios and fences over the years. If there was a piece of scrap wood left, he could find a use for it.  He enjoyed coaching his sons Marc and David in Little League and would attend most all their sporting events through High School and college.  Being present was important to him.

Doug and Mary retired to North Idaho in 1996.  His life journey had brought him full circle back to Coeur d’Alene. Doug spent many summer days golfing at the Coeur d’Alene public golf course. There were many memorable rounds with his sons Marc, David and grandkids. While not a man of many words his presence was always assuring, and he will be missed by all.  

Doug was proceeded in death by his wife Mary Ann D’Andrea and daughter Katy D’Andrea.  He is survived by his sons Marc and David D’Andrea, daughter in law Patricia D’Andrea. Grandchildren, Mackenzie, Dominic, Elizabeth, Mary Lou, Allison, his brother Tommy D’Andrea, and finally his beloved dog Tuffy who has been his canine companion for the last 12 years.

In recent years Doug was blessed to share his life with Karen Muzzy, a true partner and companion as they shared many lasting memories together.
