We are saddened by the passing of Dwight Douglas Smith, age 79. He passed away on May 23rd, 2025, at Newport Hospital, with his family right by his side. Dwight was born in Plad, Missouri, to Eva and Laud Smith and he was the youngest of 9 siblings.

Dwight is survived by his wife Marilyn Smith, his son Dale Smith & wife Erin Smith, and his granddaughter Madelyn Smith. Stepson Peter & wife Carmen Hagenbarth, Stepson Jim Hagenbarth, and grandkids Julia Hagenbarth, Thomas Hagenbarth, Hayden Hagenbarth, Elliott Hagenbarth, Jack Hagenbarth, and great granddaughter Daisy.

He was predeceased in death by his son, Darren James Smith.

Dwight grew up in South Central Missouri in a farming family, where he later graduated from high school. After high school, he served in Vietnam from September 26, 1967, through September 25, 1969.

Upon his return from Vietnam, he married and started a family, working as a Springfield, Missouri, police officer for 10 years. In 1979, he & his brother Larry moved their families to Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. He went to work for the Forest Service as an irrigator in the early 80s, then happily retired 27 years later.

After retirement, he got to enjoy fishing, hunting, family & friends, and gardening full-time.

Dwight was dearly loved by all and will be very missed by all.

Funeral services will be held promptly Sat. June 7th seating starts at 10:30 and the service will begin at 10:45 am at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls, Idaho, a military graveside service to follow, promptly at 11:45 at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls, Idaho. There will be a reception at The Smiths afterwards for a memorial tree planting, to share memories, and have a fish fry.
