Earl Charles Pfeiffer

Earl Charles Pfeiffer, age 87, of Kennewick, Washington, passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2026, surrounded by his family after a long illness.

Earl was born on February 8, 1939, in Challis, Idaho, to Charles M. Pfeiffer and Irene (Michael) Pfeiffer. He grew up in Challis and graduated from Challis High School in 1957. He earned his bachelor’s degree in education in 1961, followed by a master’s degree in physics with an emphasis in chemistry.

Earl married Karen Sasser in 1961, and together they shared 65 years of marriage. They built a life together in the Pacific Northwest, where they raised their family and many pets.

Earl worked as a high school and community college teacher for 37 years. He was known for his strong work ethic, sense of humor, and willingness to help others. In his free time, Earl and Karen enjoyed traveling and teaching their children that there was a big world to explore and learn about. They also supported their children and community through summer sports, including baseball, softball, and soccer.

Earl was especially passionate about his family and making sure his children had the opportunity to attend college. He always wanted to be a teacher and continued attending summer school throughout his life. He would have been a professional student if it had been possible, because he truly loved learning.

Earl is survived by his beloved wife of 65 years, Karen; his oldest son, Keil; his daughter, Jill; his youngest son, Chad; his daughter-in-law, Francie; his oldest granddaughter, Laurie (Pat); his grandson, Kalvin; and his youngest granddaughter, Janet (Steve), along with many friends and colleagues.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Pfeiffer; his mother, Irene Pfeiffer; his sisters, Gladys (Ralph) Crane and Carol (Ralph) Getty; and several aunts and uncles.

A military service will be held at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery, 21702 W Espanola Rd, Medical Lake, WA 99022, on September 25, 2026, at 11:15 a.m. A celebration of life will follow at Community United Methodist Church in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
