Edmund Sedlmayer

Edmund “Ed” Joseph Sedlmayer 79 of Post Falls, Idaho passed away November 12, 2021 at Kootenai Memorial Hospital after a long battle with COPD and dementia.  Ed was born September 11, 1942 in Colfax, WA to Edmund I. and Lily Sedlmayer.

Ed’s parents owned Sedlmayer’s Resort on Spirit Lake and he grew up helping with the family business.  As a teenager he spent most of his time at the docks servicing the boats which he liked much better than cleaning cabins with his mother.

Ed was in the final graduating class from Spirit Lake High School.  Ed maintained friendships with many of his high school classmates throughout his life.

Ed served in the United States Army in helicopter maintenance during the Vietnam War.  He not only worked on the helicopters, but was on many rescue missions flying into dangerous territory.

After his years in the service Ed returned home and met the love his life Adah.  They were married May 9th, 1972 and Ed found himself in the middle of family life, acquiring a son and two daughters.

Ed was a salesman for Haskin’s Steel in Spokane, WA before he and Adah purchased the Handy Mart in Post Falls, ID.  They sold the Handy Mart in 1980 and took off on a Gold Wing Motorcycle touring the United States.  After they returned he worked for Barney’s Supermarket in Pinehurst, ID. for a number of years until he changed professions and started driving truck.  He first drove for himself and then Conmat Inc. Sand and Gravel; he eventually retired from Interstate Concrete and Asphalt in 2009.

Ed enjoyed traveling; he especially liked traveling to warmer places during the cold North Idaho winter.  Ed and Adah made many trips to Mexico, on one of those trips Ed caught a swordfish that hung on the wall for many years. Ed also enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting with Adah and his many friends.

Ed was a life time member of the Lion’s club.  He spent many hours volunteering for the haunted house, the Mothers Day pancake breakfasts and many other volunteer jobs.

Ed is survived by his wife Adah, son Bill Sharp (Kathi), daughters Becky (Larry Sande) and Dixie (Roger Ziegler) and brother James Sedlymayer, seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

There will be a grave side service Tuesday November 23, 2021, 1:00 at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls, ID. A remembrance will be planned for next summer at Sedlymayer’s Resort in Spirit Lake, ID.
