Eugene Pablo Cecilio Chavez, born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on November 22, 1937, passed away peacefully on August 19, 2024, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. A man of deep faith and dedication, Eugene was a devout Catholic who found solace and strength in his weekly adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.
Eugene was a member of Los Gallos a neighborhood youth group in barrio Logan, where he cherished the camaraderie and shared values of his fellow members. His passion for horse racing brought him joy and excitement, while his love for Catholic theology, history, and classical music fueled his lifelong pursuit of knowledge. Eugene was also an accomplished artist and painter, expressing his creativity through ceramics that reflected his rich cultural heritage and personal spirituality. His most fond memories were of his many travels with his wife to Europe and Australia.
Professionally, Eugene had a distinguished career, serving as manager for Diamond Jack Produce Company, where he oversaw the truck driver division with great dedication. He later joined Ocean Garden Products, where he became the right hand to the CEO, skillfully serving as executive driver and public relations assistant, a job he enjoyed very much until his retirement.
Eugene is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Maria del Refugio "Cuca" Chavez, who stood by his side through all of life’s journeys. He leaves behind a loving family, including his brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews, all of whom will deeply miss his wisdom, kindness, and unwavering support.
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene J. Chavez and Josefa Griego Chavez; his brother, Ralph Chavez; his sisters, Bertha Lopez and Sylvia Finn; and his brothers-in-law, Johnny Guerra and Eddie Lopez.
In honor of Eugene’s life and in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made to Orchard Ridge Senior Living in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where Eugene received compassionate care and love during his final days.
"A man of deep faith and dedication who was proud of his Spanish heritage"
Eugene's legacy of faith, love, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
