Gary Douglas Benson

Gary Douglas Benson, age 70, of Post Falls, Idaho, passed away September 19, 2026, at 12:03 a.m., surrounded by his wife Jeanie, and his sons, Zachary (34), and Jack (30) Benson.

Gary was born on September 24, 1955, in Illinois to Eugene and Joanne Benson. He grew up in Chicago. He married Jeanie in 1985, and together they shared 41 years of marriage. They built a life together in Las Vegas, later relocating to Post Falls, Idaho, where they made a home with their two youngest boys, and a mixture of pets.

He worked in many occupations, the best being a husband and a father. Gary was a good man, with a huge heart. He loved all sports and rooted for all the Chicago home teams. He also enjoyed smoking anything on the grill. In his free time, Gary appreciated collecting, guitars, harmonicas, and developed a recent fascination with bees, honey, metal detecting, and collecting gold and coins. He was especially passionate about the Bears and the Cubs teams and loved to play poker.

Gary is survived by Jeanie, his wife of 41 years and his sons, Zach and Jack. He was loved by all that knew him once they got passed “Scary Gary”. He is preceded in death by his father, Eugene Benson, and his brother, David “Dave” Benson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requested that donations are made to the Bee Foundation. The family wishes to thank hospice for their kind actions, English Funeral Chapel, and most importantly, the thoughts and prayers of Gary’s friends and family.

Arrangements are entrusted with English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls, Idaho.
