Gary J. Heintz, age 84 of Hayden, ID, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 8, 2026. Gary was born on July 15,1941, in Devils Lake, ND to Bob and Marie Heintz. He grew up in Clarkston, WA in 1960.

After graduating from high school Gary served in the U.S. navy. He served in the navy for 4 years, 2 of those years being on active duty. After serving in the military, Gary toured all over Europe for a year. He then went on to attend Washington State University where he received a master’s degree in music and a minor in psychology. Gary worked as an upholster for a number of years and also worked in the glass industry as a glazier.

For the majority of his life Gary lived in Boise, ID. Gary loved music he was a Saxophone player in several jazz bands, he even joined the Boise Symphony as the oboe player, putting his master’s degree in music to good use.

Gary was a free spirit. He was known for his kindness and love of reading, music and art. He felt at peace being in nature. He will be dearly missed.

Gary is survived by his brother Duane & Enid Heintz of Hayden, ID, his brother Larry & Barbara Heintz of Hilo, HI, and brother Tim Heintz of Lewiston, ID as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Bob Heintz, his mother Marie Heintz, brother Kenny Heintz and his nephew Rick Heintz.

The family wants to thank The Lodge on Prairie Ave in Coeur d’Alene, ID and Hospice of North Idaho.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to North Idaho Hospice.

A celebration of life will be held for Gary at a later date.
