Gary Anthony Kestel “Papa”Born November 7, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York

Gary grew up in New York and, after graduating high school, proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force. A true patriot, he served with honor through three consecutive tours of duty. Following his military service, Gary earned an associate degree in heating and refrigeration, reflecting just a fraction of the many talents he perfected throughout his life.

Gary was more than a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend—he was a vibrant force of life. His honesty, loyalty, and strength were unwavering. Gary lived boldly and unapologetically, always true to himself and his values. He gave freely of his time and heart, expecting nothing in return but the same kindness he carried within.

Cooking was never just a skill for Gary—it was an expression of love. Whether planning a grand feast or sharing a simple meal, he created moments that brought family and friends together. His laughter, his stories, and his larger-than-life personality will be deeply missed.

Gary’s passions were many—traveling, woodworking, and RV adventures, just to name a few—but above all, he cherished the company of those he loved. He taught us what it means to live life to the fullest, to stand tall, and to do things your way.

His legacy lives on not only in the memories we hold but, in the lessons, he gave us: to be honest, to be brave, and to embrace life with open arms. Gary will be missed beyond measure, but his spirit will remain in every story shared, every meal enjoyed, and every moment of courage we find in ourselves.

A tribute will be held at English Funeral Chapel, 1700 N. Spokane St., Post Falls, Idaho, on Monday, Dec. 15, at 2 p.m. A gathering will also be held afterwards to share love, stories, and countless memories.

Gary was an avid supporter of Boys Town, which helps boys and girls with a variety of programs from every state of our great country. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to boystown.org or facebook.com/Boys Town.
