Ginger Rivera

Ginger Rivera

Ginger Rivera passed away Nov. 4, 2022, surrounded by her loving family and friends in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Ginger was born Oct. 24, 1959, to Chuck and Virginia Young in Madera, Calif.

Ginger had three children when she met her soulmate, Robert "Bob" Rivera, in 1986, and he too already had three children. After declining his many offers of marriage for 10 years, she finally said yes and Bob and Ginger married July 17, 1997, blending their families.

Ginger worked hard all her life at various jobs but mostly enjoyed serving and helping others. Her passion lay with feeding the homeless and taking into her home those who were socially discarded and had nowhere to go. Her last working position was cooking and feeding the homeless at Father Bill’s Kitchen in Coeur d’Alene. Her holidays were spent making sure the underserved had a warm meal. The only reason she stopped working was because her body would not allow her to stand for long periods of time anymore.

Ginger is famously known for taking in others into her home that have no place to call home. She has helped countless people with no expectation of a returned favor.

Ginger is survived by her stepmother, Shirley Young; loving husband Bob; and her children and their spouses, Greg and Rhonda Young, Angela and Josh Lose, Scott and Annie Parker, Robby and Rebecca Rivera, Jimmy Congdon and Steven Congdon, David Rivera and Talon Wylde. She is also survived by her many amazing grandbabies and the countless best friends and friends she has acquired along the way.

Ginger was a light in this community and the world. If you needed a place to go, a hot meal or money to get a little bit of gas, she would not flinch to give it to you, no matter what. She will be missed beyond what words can describe.

A GoFundMe has been set up by the family for memorial services and expenses. To donate to the memorial or to help Bob with other monthly expenses, you can donate at https://gofund.me/e5f78b8f.

Ginger’s memorial potluck will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2022, at Father Bill’s Kitchen, 1317 N. First St., Coeur d’Alene. Please bring a dish of your choice to share!
