Glenn Harrison Johnson

Glenn Harrison Johnson, an avid golfer and businessman who spent three decades entertaining politicians, journalists, champions of sport, business executives, and everyday people as the proprietor of O’Brien’s Lounge in Lewiston, Idaho, entered heaven on Monday, April 24, 2023, from complications due to prostate cancer and congestive heart failure. He was 88 years old and preceded in death by his parents, Axel and Ellen Johnson, and siblings, Oscar Johnson, Evelyn Brown, Robert Lee Johnson, and Julia Junith Decker. No memorial ceremony is planned. His ashes will be interred next to his parents at Prairie View Cemetery in Grangeville, Idaho.

Born in Grangeville, Idaho, on December 10, 1934, Glenn attended Idaho State University from 1953-1954 before serving in the US Army in Korea between 1955-1957. On his return, he attended the University of Idaho from 1957-1958. In 1959, Glenn began working at the Stables, where he booked entertainment for the venue, including Willy Nelson and Merle Haggard. He started his three decades serving customers at O’Brian’s Lounge in 1963. During this time, he married Patsy C. Hamilton and started a family. He is survived by his children Susan Randall (Clarkston, WA), Tracy Kidd (Coeur d'Alene, ID), Tina Johnson (Lewiston, ID), and Steven Johnson (San Diego, CA), four grandchildren: Ashley Luttmer, Bradley Johnson, Cayle Johnson, and Roen Randall, and eleven great-grandchildren. He loved his children deeply and took enormous pride in their achievements. Visits with his great-grandchildren brought him much joy and happiness.

In 1974, after the original owner Gordon Charpentier died, Glenn purchased O’Brian’s Lounge, with its distinctive carpeted walls, padded four-leaf clover embossed door, and chrome-plated cash register from his widow. Until O’Brian’s closed in May 1995, you could experience Glenn pouring beverages, telling stories, and making friends with laughter and warmth behind the semi-circle bar, overhead liquor shelf, and mirrored backdrop that created a stage for his hosting duties. Open six days a week, Glenn had limited time for other adventures, but he loved golf and, in the 70s, served on the board of the Lewiston Golf and Country Club. One of his favorite stories was his successful lawsuit against the Idaho Department of Law Enforcement to allow him to maintain the operation of video games in O’Brian’s.  After closing O’Brian’s, Glenn moved to Spokane, where he lived until 2016 when he moved to Coeur d’Alene

Arrangements by English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d' Alene.
