Greg Eugene Sarber

Greg Eugene Sarber, age 75, entered into rest with his Lord and Savior on June 20, 2026, following complications from a heart attack. Greg lived his life to serve as an ambassador and a witness for Jesus Christ. Each morning and evening (and any spare moment in between), he could be found reading through his Bible. His life verse was “In the beginning God . . .” Genesis 1:1a. A verse which encapsulated his view of God as the beginning and the completion of all things. He is now with His heavenly Father who first called him, gave him life in Christ, guided his every step and finally brought him home to his rest.

Born November 21, 1950, in Spokane, Washington to Albert and Eileen Sarber, Greg graduated from North Central High School in 1969. Following graduation, he joined the Navy and was assigned to the Seabees Construction Battalion. He was sent to Port Hueneme Naval Base in California for training and then assigned to Adak, Alaska, where he was able to fill his free time with hunting and fishing. For a real change of pace, he was next sent to Sicily with the Seabees Construction Group located there.

After the Navy, Greg continued his career in construction as a union apprentice carpenter. Upon completing his apprenticeship, he worked on commercial buildings throughout Idaho and Washington. In 1985, Greg and his brother Gordon started Sarber Construction which gave him the opportunity to work with Gordon and his sons Scott, Brett and Craig. Eventually Greg took a position at Avista Utilities in the maintenance department where he remained until his retirement in 2019. His retirement gave him the opportunity to spend more time working on the family’s 5-acre mini farm-ranch. In addition, Greg enjoyed fishing the area lakes with Kent Hembd and the many fishing adventures that he shared with his brother-in-law, John Brindle.

In 1969, Greg met Judi, the love of his life and his future wife. Although they didn’t marry until 1973, after Greg was discharged from the Navy, that separation only strengthened their love and commitment to each other. In 1974, a precious daughter, Sarah, was born, giving Greg a title that meant so much to him, “Daddy!” Greg and Sarah had a very close and loving relationship starting as “Daddy’s little helper.” They shared so many special times together – camping trips, horseback rides and most importantly a love for the Lord. He was totally committed to taking care of “his girls.” He loved them with an unconditional love that mirrored God’s love.

Greg is survived by his wife of 53 years Judi, his daughter Sarah, his brother Rick (Diane), his brother-in-law John Brindle, his sister-in-law Marilyn Sarber and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Eileen Sarber, his brother Gordon, his sister Susan, his nephew Todd and his niece Laurel Woods.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the Community Church of the Bible, 4510 N. Sullivan Road, Spokane Valley on September 12, 2026 at 1:00 pm. Light refreshments will follow in the basement of the church.
