James Edward Nunn, age 90, of Post Falls, Idaho, and formerly of Snover, Michigan, passed away on October 10, 2026.
Jim was born on September 28, 1936, to the late Harold and Vienna Pearl Nunn in Flint, Michigan. He grew up on Flint’s north side and graduated from Flint Northern High School in 1955.
After graduation, Jim was employed at Buick in Flint. He was offered an apprenticeship at General Motors Institute, where he received training in machine repair and machinist. Jim realized he wanted to be a police officer, so to get a “feel” for the job, he was hired as a part-time officer for the Otisville Police Department. In 1965, Jim was accepted into the Michigan State Police. He began his 27-year career at the Wayland Post. Jim also worked at the Lapeer and West Branch Posts before retiring from the Bad Axe Post in 1992.
In May 1980, Jim married Kathy, a fellow state trooper, and together they enjoyed 46 years of marriage. Jim loved his 30 acres of woods near the Argyle area. It was here that he and Kathy made their home from 1981 until October 2018. The couple then moved to Post Falls, Idaho, to live near Kathy’s brother, Bill, and his wife, Mary Jo.
Jim enjoyed all the “critters” that would visit the woods and pond. For years, the Department of Natural Resources would drop off abandoned wildlife, especially young deer, for Jim to raise and return to the wild. Jim loved all of God’s creatures, especially the “pups” he would spoil with snacks and treats.
Jim loved deer, duck, and turkey hunting. He was especially proud of his moose that was taken during a hunting trip to Northern Ontario, Canada. He enjoyed nature and all that the outdoors had to offer. He would often remark about how beautiful God made the world. Jim was born with a fishing pole in his hand and loved stream fishing for brook trout.
He was always anxious to explore a new area with Kathy and the “pups”! Together, they traveled throughout Canada and the United States in their camper.
Jim enjoyed woodworking, making all the bird feeders, birdhouses, and wood duck boxes that surrounded the pond and the Cass River.
Jim was an avid reader, always having a book in his hand. He loved Indian history, stories about fur trappers and the days of the Oregon Trail, along with Westerns. Jim also enjoyed watching football. He didn’t care who was playing or who won; he just loved his football!
A Snickers candy bar was an all-time favorite of his, with peanut M&M’s coming in a close second.
Jim devoted much of his life to serving others through his career with the Michigan State Police. He was known and loved for his ever-present smile, quick wit, and easygoing personality. Jim will be remembered for his years of dedicated service, his love for the great outdoors, his sense of humor, and the kindness he showed to both people and animals.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy, of Post Falls, Idaho. Jim is also survived by the mother of his two youngest daughters, Vicki White Rapson of Jacksonville, Florida.
