John G. Mackesy, born on July 9, 1939, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2026, at the Post Falls Veteran's Home. A proud Vietnam veteran, John dedicated 23 years of service to the Army, earning a Bronze Star for his bravery and leadership.

John's life was characterized by hard work and commitment, traits he instilled in those around him. His career in the car business began after his military service, where he worked as a service manager. Upon retirement, he answered a calling to serve as a lay pastor for the Presbyterian church, further exemplifying his devotion to both service and faith.

He was married to the love of his life, Maureen Mackesy, for 55 fulfilling years, cherishing their time together until her passing. His family was one of his proudest accomplishments. He leaves behind a legacy of love and values that his children will carry forward. Surviving him are his sister Judy (Ralph) Delonge, brother Joseph Mackesy, daughter and son-in-law Dawn and Andrew Pohl, sons Mark Ford and John and Dawn Mackesy, and cherished grandchildren Stephanie (James), AJ (Jeanne), JJ (Julia), and Bella. His great-grandchildren, Maverick and Levi, brought him immense joy.

John had a passion for woodworking, where he expressed his creativity through building furniture, most notably the grandfather clock he meticulously crafted from black walnut. His warm and friendly disposition endeared him to many, and he was known as a good guy who enjoyed conversations that brought smiles and laughter.

He was preceded in death by his wife Maureen, and sons Robert and James Ford. John's life was a testament to the values of honesty, fairness, and devotion, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege to know him. He will be remembered with love and respect by his family and friends, whose lives he touched in countless ways.

Graveside services will Military Honors will be held later this summer at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, WA.
