John W. McGinnis, Jr.

John W. McGinnis, Jr., born on March 30, 1970, in Monahans, Texas, passed away on June 15, 2025, at the age of 55, in his home in Post Falls, Idaho. John led a vibrant and adventurous life characterized by his humor, kindness, and unwavering spirit. Beloved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

John’s career path was as varied as his interests. He owned a car detailing shop in Spokane, where he applied his keen eye for detail and passion for vehicles. Prior to that, he spent time as a crab fisherman in Alaska, a role that showcased his adventurous spirit and love for the great outdoors. For over 20 years, John also dedicated himself to the Garage Door Center, demonstrating his strong work ethic and camaraderie with colleagues.

John was known for his humor and infectious personality, often making those around him laugh regardless of his circumstances. His fondness for jokes and funny antics left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of knowing him. John’s favorite word, “Fart,” often elicited chuckles and was a hallmark of his fun-loving demeanor. No task was too big or small for him; he was always there to fix things for others, ensuring everyone was taken care of before himself.

Living life "full throttle" until the end, John faced his diagnosis of ALS, received in 2022, with remarkable strength and resilience. He never complained about his circumstances and embraced each day passionately. Even while dealing with ALS, he found joy in racing around in his chair, reveling in competitive moments with his wife Amber and stepdaughter Abbey.

His love for the outdoors was evident, particularly in his enthusiasm for snowmobiling, where he made memories riding on snow, water, grass, and even attempted daring jumps, in Ione WA, displaying his undeniable zest for life. John was not just known for his work, but also for his enthusiasm. He didn’t only love snowmobiling, he was an avid dirtbiker and waterskier. In high school, he played the saxophone, a reflection of his diverse interests. And his love of music in general.

John cherished his family and took immense pride in his accomplishments, particularly teaching Abbey how to ride a dirt bike. He enjoyed camping trips with his family and their dogs, despite his playful remarks about how his love/ hate relationships with the dogs. His legacy of joy and adventure will be remembered fondly by those who were fortunate enough to share in his life. John had a lot of nicknames, but one stood out more than others. “Butt-crack” which he acquired for not wearing a belt.

He is survived by his loving wife Amber, stepdaughter Abbey, brothers Rick and Bob, nephews Aaron and Wayne, sister-in-law Pam, and mother-in-law Eileen. John was preceded in death by his mother Lois and his father John.

John W. McGinnis, Jr. will be remembered not only for his sense of humor but also for the warmth he brought into the lives of so many. His legacy of laughter, love, and adventure will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
