John Fredrick Weber

John (Jay) Weber passed away at home February 1, 2026 in Athol, ID. He was 78 years old. Jay was born in Muncie, Indiana on January 18, 1948 to John and Kathleen (nee Sharp) Weber. Jay grew up in Ceres, CA with siblings, Eileen (John) Hidahl, Brian Weber, Paul Weber, Damian (Tina) Weber, Kathleen (Steve) Ruch and Michael John Weber.

Jay is preceded in death by his mother; Kathleen, his brother; Michael John, father; John (Jack), brother; Damian, brother-in-law; John Hidahl, Pat Dubuque Weber and stepson; Robert Neep.

Jay is survived by his wife; Colette, sisters; Eileen Hidahl and Kathleen (Steve) Ruch, brothers; Brian and Paul Weber and stepson; Al Neep (Karin).

Jay graduated from Ceres High School in 1966. He qualified for the Eagle Scout rank at age 16 and his life always reflected his wide range of knowledge, skills, hobbies and abilities from welding to woodworking to cutting and polishing rocks to a new skill he was teaching himself, faceting semi- precious stones.

Jay joined the Airforce for a 4-year tour of duty during the Vietnam war. He was stationed in Thailand, Arlington and various other bases. He was honorably discharged in encryption and received many medals.

Jay got an associate’s degree in Fire Science from Modesto JC, taught CPR early on and was a Turlock Volunteer Firefighter, Fire Inspector and worked at the Riverbank Ammo plant before starting his career with Turlock Irrigation District as a Lineman eventually as a Lineman Supervisor for 25 years. He was so respected and appreciated wherever he went.

He married Colette in 2005 and they traveled and made lots of memories. They traveled through many states to finally find their forever home in North Idaho where they lived for 13 years.

Jay’s love of Jesus Christ defined his life, and he could be found praying with someone at a local establishment or at a church. If you knew Jay, then you were offered a mini tootsie roll pop no matter where you were. He’d count out how many employees were behind the pharmacy counter at Walmart and he’d make sire they all got one. He’d give one to kids BUT with the prerequisites that mom approved and that they had to “obey for the rest of the day!” He called them “smile pills” and he got lots of smiles from the people he gave them to.

Colette introduced Jay to Australian Shepherds and they eventually welcomed 5 Aussies into their home. Jay loved their fur babies. Jay and Colette traveled extensively in their motor home. They traveled to places such as Glacier NP, Yellowstone NP, Yosemite NP, Mt Rushmore and Custer state park. Their biggest trip was their 2023 7 – week to Alaska with 4 of their Aussies. They met many wonderful people and those 3 weeks in Tok were really a blessing, even though it might not have seemed like it. Jay would always point up to Heaven knowing that God had a reason for what happened daily.

Jay will be missed by the many people that came to know him as both a brother in Christ and as “Candy man”. Their church, Lake City Church, Coeur d’ Alene was home to them and they showed such love to Jay and Colette.
