Kay Ingalls Halliday Millsap

Shirley Kay Ingalls Halliday Millsap was born Aug. 18, 1943, in Los Angeles, Calif., to Mary and Eugene Ingalls. She grew up and made her life in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

She married her high school sweetheart, Bruce Alan Halliday, May 5, 1962, at Trinity Lutheran Church, and it is at her request that we will say our final goodbyes to her in that same church.

She and Bruce welcomed with great joy their first son Steven Bruce Halliday on Oct. 2, 1964, and his brother Duane Richard Halliday on Aug. 14, 1968. For Kay, there was nothing more important than her husband and family, and she devoted her entire life, literally, to loving and caring for them. Words fall far short in describing her dedication to her family, though we try here out of our deepest respect and gratitude for the love she never, ever stopped giving us.

Duane and Steve grew up to be exceptional athletes, and Kay was the ultimate football mom. To say she never missed a game is an understatement: At every single event in full fan gear, she was easily the loudest voice in the crowd, calling out blind referees and shouting loving support at every snap, drop back and pass. She showed that same enthusiasm for the next generation of athletes in her extended family, traveling to games and matches near and far, truly representing unflagging support for all of them.

Holidays were the ultimate events under Kay’s watch, and she the most extraordinary host. Her relentless attention to her family and guests’ enjoyment left everyone who was lucky enough to sit at her beautiful tables stuffed with food and laughter and love.

After 33 years of marriage, Bruce passed away, leaving Kay to rebuild a life for herself. Finding the love and abiding companionship of Bill Millsap marked the beginning of the next phase of her life, and after Kay and Bill married, she would spend her remaining years devoted to joining together their respective families and enjoying time together at their home in Post Falls. It was the comfort of Bill and her son Duane that would sustain her as she faced the greatest loss of all, the untimely death of her son Steve, just 10 days before her own passing.

Kay was preceded in death by her parents Mary and Gene, husband Bruce Halliday, son Steve Halliday, and brother Tim Ingalls. She is survived by her son Duane, daughter-in-law Jan Halliday, stepchildren Sam Millsap and Cheri Millsap, brother Don Ingalls (Jill), and her grandchildren Connor Halliday, Skye Halliday-Wilson (Marquess), Chloe Halliday, Alexa Halliday, Capriel Halliday, Ryan Odegaard, Jordyn Odegaard, and Hailey Millsap. Survivors also include numerous in-laws (and outlaws), all of whom she loved dearly, in her own unique and accepting way.

A celebration of Kay’s life will be held 11:00 a.m., Oct. 22, 2021, Trinity Lutheran Church in Coeur d’Alene.
