Kylee Grace Herbst passed away on April 20, 2025, at the age of 13, from complications related to her CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder, a rare neurological condition that severely impacts brain development.
Kylee was born on September 1, 2011, to the parents of Jennifer Mertens and Jacob Herbst. Kylee loved her Elmo that went to every procedure and drs appointments. Kylee also had a love for the ocean. No matter how sick Kylee was the sound of the waves seemed to calm her and she could relax for the brief amount of time. Kylee absolutely loved her niece Kennedy. They had a very special bond that was so amazing to watch.
Kylee had a very spunky personality despite being completely nonverbal. We are all so very blessed to have had this beautiful, sweet, and brave girl in our lives for 13 years. She has left an incredible mark on each of our hearts as well as those who had the chance to get to know her. We are all the better for having had such a special girl in our lives even though it was only for a short time. Even though Kylee struggled with medical issues since she was three weeks old, she was the toughest and bravest kid we knew. We never imagined that we would all have to say goodbye to her so soon.
Survived by her mother, Jennifer Mertens (Rathdrum), father, Jacob Herbst (Post Falls), sisters Trista Traver (Alex) and Ramie Herbst, nieces Kennedy and Kinsley Traver, paternal grandmother Susan Herbst, maternal grandparents Raymond and Marilyn Mertens, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Kylee was proceeded by her paternal grandfather Adam Herbst, all great-grandparents, and a great uncle.
Celebration of Life for Kylee will be on May 3rd at 1pm with a reception to follow:

Instead of wearing the traditional black. We would love for everyone to wear colorful clothing. Kylee loved her (red) Elmo and the Beach.
