Lawrence Marlind Laing Jr

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away September 2, 2023. Larry was born on January 24, 1931 to Lawrence Sr and Phyllis Laing in Seattle, Washington. Larry’s early years were spent with his grandparents, and later, after the death of his mother he moved to Tonasket to live with his Aunt and Uncle, Doris and Wally Bordeaux. He graduated from Tonasket High School in 1951 and soon after enlisted in the Navy. He spent four years on the minesweeper USS Impeccable, and was stationed in Guam. After Larry’s honorable discharge he moved back to Tonasket to marry his longtime sweetheart Carol Pugh.

Larry and Carol moved to Renton Washington and Larry secured new employment with Boeing Corporation as a Fireman for 13 years. Larry and his wife returned to Omak in 1969 and purchased the Lindsay Soft Water Company providing service and sales between Wenatchee and Oroville, while spending his evenings and weekends on building a house for his family of 6. Larry later partnered with his son Dale to create D&L Waterworks, adding irrigation and plumbing services to the already busy soft water business.

After retiring in 2003, Larry and Carol began traveling to Alaska, California, Hawaii, Washington DC, Arizona, Florida and the East Coast. Larry was an avid outdoorsman, his interests included skiing, boating, fishing, camping, and hiking with friends, family, and especially his grandkids. Larry loved to work in his garden and took great pride in his berries that were sold in local stores. He attended and was a member of many churches and choirs in the Okanogan Valley. Larry and Carol moved to Spokane in 2010, and have enjoyed the last few years living in Spokane Valley supported by family and the Veterans Affairs.
