Leo Berchtold

Leo (Lee) J. Berchtold of Rathdrum, Idaho, passed away Dec 18, 2020. Born Aug 24, 1933 in Sigel, Illinois, he was the last surviving child of Stephen and Mary Berchtold. He served in the military (Army) during the Korean War. He married Joyce Habing of Teutopolis, Illinois, on Jan 31, 1959, raised his family in northern Idaho, and was a member of his parish for over 50 years.

As a carpenter, he built his own house, but his greatest honor was to assist in the building of at least three churches.

He is preceded in death by his wife (1983) and son Joseph (2016). He is survived by his children John, Fr. Paul, Sr. Mary Josephine (Mary), Sr. Mary Genevieve (Anne), Sr. Mary Loretta (Susan), and Jane (Leon) Doll; his grandchildren: Michael, Nicholas, Sr Mary Cecilia (Theresa), Sr Maria Goretti (Christina), and Sr Mary Lucy (Emily); his in-laws: Jim Knoke, Dennis Habing, Alvin Hammes, Joyce Habing and many nieces, nephews, and godchildren.

The Rosary was Monday Dec. 21 and the funeral Mass was Dec. 22. May he rest in peace.
