Leo J. Scanlon

May 29, 1941 – May 7, 2023

Leo Scanlon, beloved husband, father, brother, and brother-in-law, died peacefully at home in his sleep, due to kidney failure and complications from a fall.  He grew up in Pittsburgh and received a degree in aeronautical engineering from Parks College of Engineering, Aviation, and Technology at St. Louis University. After working for Lockheed Aeronautics in Atlanta and Burbank, Raytheon Technologies in Boston, and Messerschmitt AG in Germany, he became an accomplished technical writer, with 30 published computer how-to books.  He had a gift for explaining complex processes in simple language.

He had a caring heart and a wonderful, witty sense of humor; he could always make his family, friends, and even his dialysis nurses laugh.  He loved all kinds of music, especially jazz and big band, and enjoyed traveling with Elizabeth.

He is survived by Elizabeth, his wife of 28 happy years, his sons Roger and Ryan (Tampa, Florida), his siblings Monica Rumsey (Richmond, VA), Christine Scanlon (Oakland, CA), Tom Scanlon (London, England), and Kevin Scanlon (Pittsburgh, PA), as well as two sisters-in-law, Dory Adams (Pittsburgh) and Wendy Raschke (London), and two stepsons, Otto and Justin Kitsinger (Boise). He was predeceased by his parents and youngest sister Celeste Scanlon.

Elizabeth is grateful for the assistance of Horizon Hospice in making Leo’s last few days as comfortable as possible.  Aquamation provided by English Funeral Chapel of Coeur d’Alene.  A memorial service will be held at St. Michael’s Episcopal Cathedral on Saturday June 17th at 2:00 P.M. in Boise Idaho.
