Marie Sophie Gluth

Marie Sophie Gluth of Post Falls, Idaho died of natural causes on November 30th 2017, Having received the last rites of her beloved Catholic Church.

Maire was born on May 28, 1925 to Sophie and Albert Tauer of Morgan MN, the 4th of 5 children. Irene (Schmidt) Gertrude (Koll) Melvin Tauer and little sister, Delores who died from pneumonia shortly before her 4th birthday.

Though Marie was only able to go to school through 8th grade, she accomplished much in life. She was the pianist for a band her brother Melvin was in as an accordionist, and fond memories for us children, was of her playing some of her boogies and us singing along to whatever we asked her to play.

On November 27, 1945, she married Virgil Gluth, he having returned from service in the Army at the end of WWII. They had 12 children, one of which was stillborn, and raised them all in their beloved Catholic faith, through 42 years of trials and joys. Daughter Linda and grandson Chad preceded her and Virgil in death in 1973. Virgil and Marie resided primarily in Redwood Falls, MN area. Earlier years were spent farming until Virgil contracted polio in mid-1950’s, leaving one of his arms useless. After struggling with the disability for a time he became a DHIA supervisor, testing farmers’ cows for butterfat content and advising them as to how to increase their milk production. Maire was always there to help him in his work.

In 1973 in a giant leap of faith they moved to Kalispell, MT as many of their children had taken up residence in the area. Their love for the beauty this mountainous area was evidenced by their yearly trip through Glacier National Park only a short distance away. They lived there until Virgil’s passing in 1987.

For a time, Marie lived in Victor, MT, on to Great Falls, Mt and the finally settling the beautiful Coeurd’ Alene area…always to a place that would enrich her Catholic faith.

She will be remembered for the love of her children, her work ethic and as a woman of great faith. The verse on her holy card says it all. 2 Timothy ( Vs 4;7-8) “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. As to the rest, there is laid up for me a crown of justice, which the Lord the just judge will render to me in the day: and not only to me, but the them also that love His coming.”

Survivors include her children Virgil Gluth (Linda), Janice Moonen (Alvin), Marie Peterson (Mark), Greg Gluth (Lynn), Randy Gluth (Dawn) Mark Gluth (Rosie) Tim Gluth, Melanie Finley (Mark) Barbara Wilson (Steve), Patricia Winkelman (Bob), 69 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
