Marjorie Leona Colwell, age 95, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Elgin, Nebraska on September 11, 1930 to Homer and Leona Coulthard and was the third of their four children.
Her family moved from Nebraska to Hope, Idaho in the mid 1930s. She attended school in the area graduating from Sandpoint High School in 1949. After graduation, she went to nursing school in Spokane, Washington for a short time before marrying Bruce Colwell in 1950.
They made their home in Coeur d’Alene in 1952 where they raised their five children and shared 64 wonderful years together. Family was the joy of her life. She loved to cook and made every family celebration memorable. Sunday gatherings for home cooked meals or desserts were legendary and there was always lots of laughter and love.
She was filled with love for her own family and had enough extra to give to extended family, friends, and neighbors. She had many long time friendships which she cherished. Her kitchen was always open for impromptu get togethers. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.
Marge is survived by her children Judy (Dale) Bennett, Mary (Phil) Hayes, Janie (Dave) Sande, Rod (Debbie) Colwell, and Tom (Robin) Colwell; grandchildren Andy Hayes, Ben Sande, Kelli Shepard, Marni Wilson, Chandi Bailey, Eric Sande, Erin Wright, Rachel Chamberlin, Megan Page, Kristin Andre, Caitlin LeBlanc, Mathew Colwell (and spouses) and 22 great grandchildren plus numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce, her parents Homer & Leona Coulthard, brother Laverne Coulthard, sisters Betty Berntson and Mary Benoit.
