Mark Henry Cataldo, passed away on December 29, 2025, at Kootenai Health in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Mark was born on April 14, 1950, in Summit, New Jersey, to Hank and Millie Cataldo. In 1957, his family moved to California, where he was raised in Canoga Park.

In 1969, Mark joined the U.S. Army. During his service, he was stationed at the Panama Canal. On return from the service Mark started his career at the DMV in California. Mark was a proud member of the Post Falls American Legion.

In 1987, Mark moved to Idaho, a place that would become his long-term home. He worked for Bar-Walt, Potlatch Credit Union, Telect, and Spokane Community College, where he served for many years before retiring in 2016.

Mark married Diane Johnson Schumacher in 1991.

Mark had many interests. He loved all cars, but he held a special place in his heart for AMX cars and Studebakers. When he wasn't collecting and working on cars, he was busy working on computers.

Mark served as the Director of the Coeur d’Alene Marathon for two years. Ran several half-marathons and fun runs. He also loved the outdoors. He enjoyed boating, riding his bike, and exploring trails on his side-by-side, line dancing, playing cards. He loved to cheer for Gonzaga basketball teams and the Seahawks. He liked to winter in Yuma after retiring.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Nadya Gordon and Barbara Tanzi.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Cataldo, his nieces, Ashley Smith and Lyndsey Knapp-Lyn, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gene and Linda Hill, and his sister-in-law, Sharon Johnson, and family and friends who will always remember Mark’s kindness and determination to make the most of his days.

A commerative gathering will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. Sunday January 4, 2026, at the English Funeral Chapel, 1700 N. Spokane St., Post Falls, ID.
