Maxine Schierman

Maxine (Nettleton) Schierman was born January 18, 1935 into a pioneer Coeur d’Alene family, the daughter of Herb and Rose (Hamlin) Nettleton, and was called home to her Lord on July 22, 2019 at the Hospice of North Idaho Schneidmiller House.  Growing up she and her sister Kaye enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, huckleberry picking, and going to Sanders Beach.  Maxine graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1953 and North Idaho College in 1955.  Her interest and skills in accounting were utilized in her careers at the US Forest Service, Dingle’s Inc., and the North Idaho College business office, from where she retired in 1999.

Maxine married Don Schierman in Coeur d’Alene in 1957 and children Kris, Kerry, and Kim soon followed.  Her greatest love was being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Maxine was involved in various women’s organizations such as Mother’s Club, PEO, Art Study Club of Coeur d’Alene, and Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.  Dedicated to her faith and church (Christ the King Lutheran), she especially enjoyed choir, Bible Study Fellowship, and Precepts bible studies.  Her love of music also extended to participation in community choirs and playing violin, saxophone, and banjo.

Maxine felt blessed to be able to travel extensively with Don, family, and friends at home and abroad, with Hawaii and Canadian hot springs always holding special places in her heart.  She and Don also enjoyed playing cards and dominos with family and friends.

Survivors include husband Don, children Kristine (Larry) Gibbon, Kerry (Tricia) Schierman, Kimberley (Joel) Bertsch, sister Kaye Larson, grandchildren Kelli, David, Riley, Grayson, Seth, Ethan, Lindsey, Nathaniel, John, and Sara, great grandchildren Katrina, Konrad, Blake, Easton, Cameron, Conner, Carson, Andreas, Lilit, Kira, and Bastian and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

A memorial service celebrating Maxine’s life will be held at Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1700 Pennsylvania Avenue, Coeur d’Alene, at 2 PM on Wednesday, July 31.  In lieu of flowers, for anyone who wishes, memorial contributions may be sent to either Christ the King Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Idaho.

The family wishes to thank all who cared for and supported them and Maxine in her final days.
