Richard Chandler

Richard M. Chandler of Post Falls, ID passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 12, 2021.

Richard was born Sept. 13, 1933 in Portland, Oregon to Wayne & Alta Chandler. He grew up in Oregon alongside his four brothers Tom, Bob, David and Leslie. In 1953 Richard began his 20-year military career in the Air Force, retiring in 1973.  During his service he traveled to many countries, doing tours in both the Korean and Vietnam wars. It was during his tour in Japan that he met and married the love of his life, Kyoko Tokunaga in 1956 on Itazuki Air Force Base. They were married for 65 years and had three boys: Jim, Don and Mike Chandler.

Richard is survived by his wife Kyoko, children Jim & (Kris) and Don & (Christi), grandchildren Leah, Carly & (Rohit), Jessy, Nathan and Henri, great grandchild Aunica and many nieces & nephews. Richard was many things – a veteran, a farmer, stubborn as hell, brilliant at jeopardy, never far from his Jim Beam – but above all he was a dedicated grandfather. “Grandpa’s chair” was always full of kids growing up with his sincere promise to bail them all out of jail in their time of need. He loved soaking up the sun on his deck on the weekends and took his wife, children and grandchildren fishing in his boat whenever he could, always hunting for that monster catfish. He worshipped his 10-pound guard dog Moxie. He never missed his WWE wrastlin. He hated salads (does he look like a rabbit?). His needs were simple, his life was full and he will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him.

His family is profoundly grateful to Hospice of North Idaho for their friendship and supportive end of life care. They ask that you please consider making a donation in Richard’s memory. Donate

There will be a private family service at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise on Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021.
