Roger Carl Jansson

Roger Carl Jansson, 75, a longtime Dalton Gardens resident, passed away Nov. 13, 2023, from complications following a car accident.

Roger was born in Helena, Mont., to John Robert (Bob) and Lois Jansson on Sept. 18, 1948. His early life was spent in the U.S. Forest Service Ranger District in Helena, Mont., Priest Lake, Idaho, and Newport, Wash. The family moved to Dalton Gardens in 1960. Roger graduated from Coeur d'Alene High School in 1966. He attended North Idaho College and the University of Idaho, receiving a Bachelor's of Science degree in Forest Management in 1972.

Right after graduation from high school, Roger became a seasonal firefighter with  Idaho State Forestry (now Idaho Department of Lands). This was the beginning of a 44-year career in forestry and fire management with IDL and he formed many strong friendships with the dedicated employees of the agency.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, sister Ruth Cain and brother Paul Jansson. Roger is survived by his nephew, Rob Jansson, and his nieces, Susan Calhoun, Tami Hees, Pamela Blackwell and Susan Westbrook. He is also survived by nine great-nieces and nephews. With no children of his own, Roger took special pleasure in being an uncle and spending many Thanksgivings with his sister's family in Missoula and Christmases with his brother's family in Boise.

Roger had a special friendship with Carol LaRue and her family. He found a lot of pleasure and fulfillment in being "Uncle Roger" (or Grandpa) to Carol's grandchildren, Frances LaRue and Titan Morlan. Roger was proud to be "Grandpa" to Frances' children, Isaac and Isabella.

Funeral Services will be December 1, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. English Funeral Chapel, 1700 N. Spokane St., Post Falls, Idaho.  Interment at Coeur d'Alene Memorial Gardens.
