Ronald Thomas Moen passed away on July 23, 2024, at the Life Care Center of Coeur d’Alene.
Ron was born January 15, 1935, to Anton and Naomi Moen (Carlson) in Coeur d’Alene, ID, the city he lived in for the following 89 years. His sister, Nancy, joined the family the following year.
Throughout his youth, Ron enjoyed playing all sports, and lettered in basketball and football. He graduated with the class of 53 from Coeur d’Alene High School, which at the time was located at the corner of 7th and Montana. He attended the College of Idaho for one year and North Idaho Junior College. Ron served in the Idaho National Guard in the 1960’s.
In 1957, Ron and Helen Krueger were married. They had two boys, Mike and Todd, and a daughter, Tracy. The family first lived in the Springwater area, east of 23rd Street. The two story brick house had been built prior to the 1900’s on dairy farm that Ron built a large pond east of the house, which eventually was most likely filled in and became part of the Ponderosa Golf Course. Other family homes were a ranch style house on N. 5th Street, the concrete “Arney” house on S. 11th Street, and on the west slope of Best Mountain. Ron and Helen divorced in 1974.
Business ventures were many and varied. He first worked with his Dad at Northside Feed and Hardware at midtown on 4th Street, which eventually was known as Moen Hardware. In the 1960’s Ron bought a gravel pit on West Appleway and three concrete trucks and formed a company called Moen Concrete. The company sponsored a softball team which enjoyed great success and created fun memories during the heyday of men’s recreation league softball, filling the bleachers at Memorial Field.
In 1986, Moen Concrete was sold to Interstate Concrete and Asphalt Co. Ron continued to work buying and selling various pieces of real estate. His hobbies included restoring antique International Harvester tractors and Model A Cars. He restored and still has the 1930 Model A Victoria he owned in high school.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, his son Todd, and his daughter Tracy.
He is survived by his son Mike Moen (Barb), granddaughter Julie Walton (Casey), grandson Kevin Moen (Kelsey), five great grandchildren, sister Nancy Wilson, niece Wendy Wilson (Ed), and nephews Brent (Shelley) and Matt Wilson.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday August 3, 3024, at the English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene, ID.
