Sharon Jameson

Sharon Elaine Perkins Jameson, 78, of Rathdrum, Idaho passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019 in Coeur d’Alene. Family and friends will celebrate her life on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 11:00 a.m. at St. George’s Catholic Church in Post Falls, Idaho. A recitation of the Rosary will be held prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. Sharon is survived by her husband, Bruce; her son, Kent, and his family, Jessica, Sam, Alex, and John; her sister Linda; her brother Bud; and a host of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jennifer; her parents, Jim and Luella; and her siblings David, Maxine, Janice, and Berta.

Sharon will be best remembered for a sharp wit as quick as a hummingbird in flight and as dry as the desert sand. She will also be remembered for her infinite kindness and sweetness.

Born in Almira, Washington, her early life was spent living in towns across Washington and Idaho as her father followed work as a granary operator. Her school years found her in Waterville, Wash., where she became active in Rainbow Girls during high school and eventually led that organization in the Western United States. At Eastern Washington College of Education – now Eastern Washington University – Sharon was very active in student government while earning her degree in education, and it was at Eastern where she met and married Bruce.

Sharon taught at Medical Lake until Bruce graduated and earned his commission in the U.S. Army. After spending time in El Paso, Texas, so Bruce could receive his officer orientation in missile systems, they were stationed in Wurzburg, West Germany, where Jennifer and Kent were born. Following the army, they briefly returned to Spokane before moving to the Puget Sound area, where they remained until their next great adventure took them to American Samoa. Unhappy with the public schools there, Sharon helped to found the South Pacific Academy in Pago Pago, a school that is still in operation more than 40 years later.

After returning to the United States, Sharon and her family lived in Washington and California for a short time before relocating to Texas, where Bruce trained to help build a helicopter factory in Isfahan, Iran in 1979. The Iranian revolution prevented that move, so the family remained in Texas, where Sharon and Bruce remained for the next twenty plus years. Sharon worked as an Admin until she was promoted to Travel Manager.  She excelled in that position where she led and organized the NTPA annual convention in Dallas.  The low point in her life came when her daughter Jennifer died in a swimming accident that following summer. The hot Texas summers sent the family packing back to the Northwest.  They lived in the Poulsbo, Washington area for nearly 10 years enjoying much of what that area has to offer.  When Bruce was forced to retire, they moved to the relative quiet of North Idaho where she was soon diagnosed with the deadly cancer, Multiple Myeloma.
